Lafazar: A question for GOG staff: There was a discussion about additional content in the CD versions of MM4&5, mainly voice acting, in the announcement thread (link see below). Which versions of MM4&5 are included in this collection? I guess it is the floppy versions that came with the limited edition of MM6? Is there a possibility to get the additional voice

Might and Magic: World of Xeen (4 and 5 ) are with voice acting.

Fantastic. I've got the boxed version of this but it only has the floppy versions with no voices outside the intro. I'm think I'm going to have to buy this anyway although I might delay it for a while as I just got 14 games in the Interplay promotion yesterday.....

WBGhiro: Dude... this website is all about old games, of course they are they way they are. and i find them better than most newer titles.

JacobNZ: Yes but there is a limit I mean I don't mind fallout or septerra core but these graphics are abit to old school for my tastes. Also judging by the pictures the gameplay isn't much better.
edit: :( looks like I opened up a hornets nest

Good games are like good films or music just because it was released over 6 months ago doesn't mean its rubbish or you should be ashamed to be seen watching or listening to it. Yes the graphics, visual effects, Ai, physics, audio, etc aren't as good, but all of those things don't always make for a better game or gaming experince, i'll take GTA3 over GTA4 anyday.
The modern generation is so obsessed with fads and image, everything is like a fashion trend nowdays. (i sound like one of those miserable c****s on grumpy old men).
If you think these games look old you should see the 8 bit ones i still play on the Spectrum and Amstrad. I guess nostalgia also plays a big part, if you didn't grow up with them then you may not enjoy them as much.

Thank you very much. Great work, as usual.

JacobNZ: Quick question, do you guys buy every game released just because its gog? I mean how can you play suchjaded graphics with basic and slow gameplay?

JudasIscariot: Not all of us like Halo ...

But some of us do like Halo ... and 20+ year old pc RPGs like Might n Magic. The two are not mutually exclusive. :o)

Hmm, I did some more research and unfortunately found this:
"The soundtrack consists of three components: a General MIDI music track, incidental sound effects, and, on the CD edition, full voice for all in-game dialogue. The music is cheesy and repetitive, but it still adds to the mood of the game and doesn't get on your nerves. Sound effects are loud and somewhat crude (figuratively and literally; the city guard on the Darkside says "Fuck off" if you don't have a pass to that city), including both incidental sound effects and some short speech clips. The full voice is handled somewhat oddly, increasing the difficulty of retrogaming, as each voice sample is set up as a Red Book CD audio track on the CD rather than as a sample, requiring the use of the original CD (which the CD version will not function without)."

There is no trace of the CD images in GOGs version, so I must assume they are missing the additional in-game voice acting after all.
Another problem: When you try to leave the first city, there is a copy protection check. You have to enter a password from the manual. Unfortunately the manual provided by GOG is not compatible with this copy protection check.
The correct passwords can be found here:

So are we all going to start from the 1st game and work through?
I hate to think how long all this will take to complete :)

I've only played the first 2 games, but judging from them, I'd say 3 or 4 years. Seriously. In early Might n Magic games, the player characters can die from old age. With this collection, I'd worry about the players themselves dieing from old age. DAMN YOU GOG! ;)

That's great to hear!
I'm so hyped at the moment, but sadly stuck at work and itching to get home and started.

JacobNZ: Contimplated the purchase but could not bring myself to buying, way to old way to dated. Hopefully the newer versions with better graphics and less stgnant gameplay are released.

*gasp*
Seriously give it a shot, the gameplay and fun of "Worlds of Xeen" is worth it... the rest is just gravy.
Thank you GOG, ever since I found out about this service Heroes 3 and Might and Magic 6 were the games I hoped for the most. I lost my MM6 disks years ago so I never got to replay it until now!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you
Yes! Bye bye weekend.
Let's see, I think I will go with an elf sorcerer another elf sorcerer a dwarf cleric and a human archer
And to anyone complaining about the graphics, that is the last thing I look for in a game. In fact bloom and next gen graphics kill games for me because there is never any depth. Just compare MM6 and Dark Messiah *SHUDDER* just because Dark Messiah has MUCH better graphics does not mean it is as good (anywhere near as good).
Nothing could make me happier right now. Well, except maybe seeing Thief bundle pack here. :D
A big thank you GOG.

Those are two different types of games and as such, shouldn't be compared (IMHO). Messiah is actually quite good but by no means RPG.

I have a feeling a LOT of the games sold on GOG are for nostalgia reasons. We played them long ago when they were first released, and want to go back and play them again. And it's so cheap it's worth it for 5 hours or so of game play before they're shelved again for a few years.

I had the same problem but then found a Keys pdf file in the install directory under the Start - Programs installation path. This links to a keys_3_5.pdf file that gets installed in both the mm3 and mm4+5 directory.
