Silent. Emotionless. Undetected. Lethal. Effective. Hitman: Codename 47.

Hitman: Codename 47, a game that crafted a standard for in-game contract killers, can finally stealthily approach you with a garrote wire on GOG.com for $5.99.

The ultimate gaming assassin is silent, emotionless, infallibly lethal, well-dressed (suit up!), and he can only be distinguished by the barcode tattooed on his bald skull. His name is 47 and he has created a lot of bad publicity for bald men wearing red ties since his first appearance in 2000.

Hitman: Codename 47, the first game in the franchise that has spanned 4 titles and a movie to date, developed a completely new approach towards third-person shooters and stealth games. You need planning, elaborate schemes, deceit and sometimes a garrote wire to perform your assignments in the most “silent” manner. Or you can just kill everyone, one by one. Find the target and eliminate it, by any means possible. That's all that really matters.

You can become a cold-blooded contract killer in Hitman: Codename 47 for only $5.99.

Kabuto: Nice job GOG in convincing Square to list Hitman for $5.99 ($9.99 on steam)
IMO digital distributors like GoG shouldn't only look to other digital retailers for pricing, but also compare to going prices of hard copies. and let's face it, it's not hard to find a new and sealed hard copy of the Hitman Collection for around $10 on Ebay. that's all 4 games...

da187jimmbones: I really like Max Payne and Thief and other moody, genre bending first person games. I've been meaning to find another first person game along these lines...Will this game scratch my itch?
neither Max Payne nor Hitman are first-person games... but yeah, if you like Max Payne and Thief, you'll like Hitman. and even if you didn't, Hitman (the entire series) is a must-have for action/stealth fans, IMO.

Hitman 1 is very tempermental on Vista and 7 so if GOG managed to get it running perfectly, it's worth spending $5.99 for it.

I think there was a first person option in the later games, not sure though

ya, the option was there in at least some of the games, but it was never meant to be played from that perspective. always felt weird and kind of unfinished.
I wasn't big on Hitman 2 but that was many moons ago. I am willing to give the series another shot when it goes on sale.
Nice. Already own it legally three times but I guess I'll buy it sooner or later on GOG anyway. I'm only wondering whether GOG will manage to publish Contracts. It's the only one that isn't available on Steam because of legal problems considering one or two of the licensed songs found in there. But since it seems that occasionally the GOG team goes a very long extra mile to get the rights to publish some titles I hope that they'll manage to get this one too.
Unfortunately, somebody is suggesting that the game continues to run too fast on some machines. Has anybody who has bought the GOG version been able to play it normally?

I hate to state the obvious but the GOG testing team probably...?
Send a support ticket! ;)

I've played it for a few hours, until I got shot to pieces when trying to sneak into an apparently off limits area (Say hello to my little friend level). Haven't had any problems. Windows 7 64bit, fancy NVIDIA GPU, and a 4 core processor.

Well it's good to hear a second opinion, at least. With all due respect to those who are having problems, I hope you're the minority.

Even though the first game is much more linear, and is almost not even part of the series anymore, it's great to have easy access to it. Awesome release. Hitman 2 is probably my favorite stealth game ever.
Sorry to disagree with you Fred but the Hitman series, especially the first game, is nothing at all like Thief or Max Payne other than in the most superficial ways i.e. it's got a third person perspective like Max Payne and it's got some stealth oriented mechanics like Thief.

da187jimmbones: Atmosphere-wise Hitman doesn't begin to approach either Thief or Max Payne (it's also much weaker from a gameplay perspective). I/O got better at it as the series progressed and the mechanics improved exponentially in the later games. This first game plays much more like a puzzler with most of the levels requiring a very specific series of steps for successful completion. The frustrating thing is that you're barely given any information on what those steps should be, resulting in frustrating trial and error (made worse by the fact that you can't save during missions). My advice would be to wait for some of the later installments in the series to become available and get those instead. Don't worry about missing out on story or anything since that was never the series' strong suit. Yeah I know it's only 6 bucks..but there are many other bonafide classics on GOG you could spend that on. If you haven't played Deus Ex...get that for sure.

Here's hoping the Thief games are in the GOG pipeline now that the Eidos catalogue is coming in!!

I'm waiting for Agent 48 – he will have a QR Code in the neck instead !

Didn't you know? 47 already slaughtered all those 48s...

Oh man, this game is awesome. I must have finished it at least four times back in the day. As a challenge, I even beat it once without buying any equipment, using only the piano string and whatever I could pick up from enemies during missions.
