RafaelLopez: HOMM2 was a huge blast of a game for its time, likely the classic that made the series what it is. HOMM3 is an even better game, but perhaps not such a huge blast for its time. :) Still arguably better than HOMM2, technically and overall, though both games are very similar.
Both HOMM2 and HOMM3 are highly playable even today, but to me the best game in the series is easily HOMM5: slightly improved all aspects, keeping the same gameplay and overall spirit of its predecessors. AND in HoMM5 necromancers are so very powerful -- always a bonus.

DrIstvaan: I find the atmosphere in HOMM2 is better than in 3; somehow, it has a more unique medieval-fantasy feel, while HOMM3 feels more "generic".
However, the third instalment opens up new perspectives with its increased dimensions (p.e. not all flyers can sweep through the whole battlefield, rendering ranged units almost completely useless).
(Oh, and +1 rep for you for liking Heroes V ;-).)

Heroes V is the ultimate Heroes to me because it improves what was already great, staying very true to the formula, and adding new super powers to each faction, cool powers like necromancers bringing back deadly wraiths from the ashes of a paladin. At first it looks "3Dish", but soon you realise it's still a tiled board game.
I think I played all of them very hard for a long time, each on its time. The bottom line to me is that they remain highly playable even today, all of them, because it's basically the same game (except Heroes 4, where static monsters chase you around on the map and arrows hit friendly units on their way to the enemy).

JNokikana: HOMM 5 is very good yeah, but I hated the way they removed all of the little "atmosphere" things which made these games best at what they do.
You know those nice descriptions on what really happens when you find an artifact: "You enter a dark cave..."
In HOMM5 its like "You found the Sword of Death" thats so boring.

But you can always download a fan-made huge map of Isles of Terra to play on... it's one series I always come back to.

Another week, another instant purchase. Now bring on that MM6 LE...
Okay, I already had HoMM 3 and Armaggeddon's Blade, but had to buy the complete edition. I really wanted to play the WoG extension and I didn't have the official Shadow of Death add-on... Well, doesn't matter, it's GoG, so everything's fine, I had a free-game coupon to redeem ! ^_^
This reminds me that with HoMM3 complete installed, all the HoMM games are currently on my computer! ^_^
Bought. Lost my HOMM3 Complete CD several years back (fortunately still had a HOMM3 CD, just no expansions), and getting the expansions back plus the standard GOG convenience at $10 is an absolute steal. Now I just need to decide on what map to get back into HOMM3 with.
How is the skirmish capability in HOMM3? The skirmish/random map generator in HOMM2 was the best I've ever seen.

Even better.

Well, I don't share your enthusiasm about Heroes 2's RMG; in my experience, it tended to leave the players without such important things as sawmills and stone mines in the vicinity.
But, as ElPixelIllustre said, it IS better in HOMM3.
As for skirmish play, it is at least as good as in HOMM2; the AI has its little quirks, and it also cheats every now and then, but it's still great.
(A small note: these aspects are even better in the mod (should I say unofficial expansion?) "In the wake of Gods.)
DrIstvaan, actually HoMM3 map generator is far from perfect too. It likes to put several underground entrances near each other (and nothing between them, no obstacles and such), and several times it has put my castle into a valley with no way in/out (and no dimension door in mage guild).
I for one don't consider any of those generators better than the other.

I only said it was better than the HOMM2 one, I didn't say it was perfect.
I'm spoiled anyway, as I've only been using WoG's RMG for the last couple of years. It's MUCH, MUCH better than the original.
Nice addition - too bad I already own 2 or even 3 copies of the game :D

Me either (5 copies, I'm a freak =)... But it didn't stop me from buying it on GOG... No DRM and no CD ^^.
Ps: Is 'Me either' use correct in this sentence (i.e. a positive reply)?

I also had it on CD, yet bought it here as well bacause of the convenience provided by the single installer file, which has no DRM and no CD requirement.

Horus: Ps: Is 'Me either' use correct in this sentence (i.e. a positive reply)?

I *think* it is not an officially correct form. It should be "me too".
(Just like you, I'm not a native English speaker, so it may be that this form exists, but I've never heard it before. Besides, we got what you meant, so it's a correct form of communication ;-).)
Me either is a colloquial (very informal or slangy) and in this case I don't think it's correct, way of saying the same thing as the more correct "neither (verb) I." As in, neither do I, neither have I, neither was I. A bit more old-fashioned and not used much these days is "nor (verb) I."

Me either is fun though so I'm using it from now on. :)
