The Evil is back! Thanks to the sequel to the acclaimed Dungeon Keeper you can be even nastier.

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/dungeon_keeper_2]Dungeon Keeper 2 is Bullfrog’s second take on the masterpiece blend of real-time strategy with elements of sim, RPG and first person action game. Once again you take the role of the main Bad Guy. You have to build an underground empire, set deadly traps, recruit armies of brainless minions, and show the good-natured (bleh!) heroes where their place is: six feet under! And with even greater selection of traps and monsters it's now easier than ever. So train your army well (or slap them into submission) to expand your evil empire from the undergrounds to the realms above.
Never seen so many complaints about a good game being released in a DRM free executable for less than 10 bucks.

Dear GoG,

Contrary to what you may see on these forums, many of us love it when you have new releases. It makes us happy to have more great games to play. Thanks.

F242: I have the original CD version, a modern system and ATI card, For me this was an almost instant buy but I read what was posted so far and I pulled back.
I will be gladly buying this when there is evidence that the annoying flickering of the screen was fixed.
Works fine for me on Win 7 x64 and an AMD video card.

Provided I don't leave anything else up when I launch it. But that's fairly typical, MS has never done well in that department.

Sylenall: Unfortunate.

Seems like every EA release is tainted by something.

This is a game I would love to get. I passed up on DK 1 because it was an inferior version with no expansion, and I guess I'm not buying this because it's apparently buggy as ****.
I wish people who haven't bought the games would stop commenting on the quality of the games. It strikes me as a pain for those thinking about purchasing to wade through all the criticism from folks that don't own the game.

So I've just transferred my CD version installation over to my brother's computer, who uses 2 ATI GPUs in a crossfire setup and runs on Win7, because I was curious about these issues with ATI cards.

Turns out people are right, had to do a bit of tweaking to get it to work :
-Set compatibility mode to Win2000 and "Run as admin" (tried both at the same time, one of them might be optional)
-Edit the video options in the registry to set the "Engine Id" to 4 and disable the "Hardware3d" (to fix the black screen)
-Put it in 800x600, because in 1024x768 it was crashing to desktop.

After doing those steps, the game seems to be working fine, no crashes so far.

As far as NVIDIA GPUs are concerned, it's possible to get the game to work perfectly (can't really remember what I did to make it work though ... it was a long time ago). Only thing you can't do is force widescreen resolutions (at least not on recent drivers, but it used to work with old 180-something drivers)

Unfortunately, I doubt these issues can be fixed by GOG, at least not without tampering with the source code. Other option would be for ATI to work on their drivers compatibility with this game.

SNIP
This is often the case. It doesn't make them right, it does mean that some combinations of drivers and hardware doesn't allow for it to work easily, or possibly at all.

Others such as myself were fortunate enough to have it work perfectly out of the box. This is fundamentally the same sort of issue, AFAICT, as Blood 2 which couldn't be made to work on my previous nVidia video card no matter what I tried, well other than disabling acceleration. That game works like a champ comparatively on the same computer after I replaced the video card with an ATI one.

Commenting on the quality of the game, when did I do that? I'm commenting on an issue that kept me from buying the game.

Yeah. Opinions are going to be expressed in forums. Like it or not.

I have the CD of both DK 1 and DK 2, but I buy from GOG because I do not feel like tampering with my machines to get them to work. They work fine for me and I am using nividia cards. GOG does package the games to work on computers of today and unfortunately they may not work on all machines. I am glad GOG is around.

YOU do not have a valid opinion on the quality of this release because you have not bought it. You are merely re-gurgitating what you have read from other people. This is not having an opinion this is acting like a sheep and joining the mob for a good old fashioned pitchfork and torch night.

Going by my own experience of the retail release it does have issues on Nvidia cards but I use ATI and it runs fine after a little tweaking. GOG are not allowed to write their own custom drivers for video cards even if they wanted to.

Personally I would rather have comments that discuss the quality of the games or lack of than people who just post "wishlisted" or "oh my!!" or whatever

Did I review the game or speak to it's strengths or weakness? Did I tell others not to buy it? No?

Okay, lets review what I said:

"I'm not getting it because it's apparently very buggy".

OH NOES! I HAD NO RIGHT! NO RIGHT! *slams fist into desk*

I guess the fact that MANY people find the 1.7 version of the game VERY buggy is not good information, and certainly not something that new customers need coloring their perspective purchase.

No. They should find out the hard way.

Sylenall: No. They should find out the hard way.
No they should research purchases properly and make informed choices. People jumping on the bandwagon saying the game is broken when they haven't even played it do not help.

I'm not here to laugh, or yell, but I would like to point out that 20 posts above the post I'm quoting was a GoG Staff member saying that they're aware of the problem and are working to pull out the best fix for problems that they're able to. I think that's the problem people are having.

Anything stemming from modernizing they seem to be working on, if the game is buggy due to it's code (which I don't think GoG has access to), will need to be worked on by other means then the GoG staff has, it's not the first time the community has come up with fixes for things the original devs never did.

Oh. So it's GOOD information to find out (say on a forum like this one), but I'm apparently not allowed to RELAY said information because I have not personally taken the plunge and got burned. I'm not even allowed to state why I'm not buying the game.

Yes. That makes lots of sense.

Of course you can. Most people do. "Meh I will wait for the expac" or "Going to pass on this one" is enough for most people. One post, sharp and to the point. There is no need to start a damn flame war over it.

That's funny, didn't think I started this.

Not to keep picking on you since I just replied to you in another post, but I don't see how he was starting a flame war.
And saying "Going to pass on this one" doesn't give any useful information at all, so no I don't consider that good enough
