Play a beautiful and fun, but still challenging, game of chess in our today's release of Combat Chess from Empire Interactive.
Combat Chess is a chess simulator with a twist. Similar to Battle Chess, it combines the challenge of playing chess with the fun of watching the pieces actually fight each on the board. With hundreds of pre-rendered animations for pieces both stationary, moving and engaged in combat, you'll be surprises at how lively a chess board can be. Despite the game being over ten years old, the visuals still look very nice and aesthetically pleasing. The actual chess engine can be challenging to all but the most experienced players, making it a great game for those who want to learn (or teach someone) how to play chess and have some casual fun while doing so.
ooh its out! Damn, like ghost recon before it, it has to wait nearly a fortnight till I can afford it
As much as I would like to play chess, it turns out I'm crap at it :)
If the difficulty is a bit less (initially at least) here, I may put it on an ever growing 'want' list.
Ugh. I thought you were releasing Heroes of Might and Magic today. I picked this up out of the bargain bin years ago and let's just say the bargain bin was where it belonged.
You've got Ubisoft's catalog now, why hesitate to release things like Majesty and the HOMM games? Why prioritize things like this?
I am glad to see the coming soon catalogue being worked on. It was starting to get mighty long for a while ...
I wouldn't mind this or battle chess, but I seriously suck at chess =/ Maybe I'll pick em up in the future.

Ubisoft doesn't have the Majesty-rights, those belong to Paradox (who recently rereleased the original in retail stores, actually).
Other than that, it seems GOG signed a deal for a limited amount of games to begin with (according to some interviews), so it doesn't look like they get to pick and choose exactly which old Ubisoft-games they want to publish here. Though I certainly hope they get access to a wider range of games than the slightly boring selection they got to begin with.
As for Combat Chess, they have made a deal with Empire which includes it, so they had to release it sooner or later. Best to get it over with, I suppose (I'm no fan of this game either, it's like Battle Chess only not as charming).
I'll be downloading this one soon. I love chess.
Not a big chess fan, but I guess if I am going to play it, it might as well have knights goring mythical creatures.

HOMM was supposed to be released with the Ubisoft announcement, but GOG decided to hold off as they wanted to get a better price for folks like yourself (link). Have faith.

That's the worst part, any delay in HOMM1 and HOMM2 being released will only compound the time I have to wait before they get around to HOMM3, which is the one I really want.
