Nice game, and quite hard one. Played it few years ago. I remeber it was first game using GeForce 3 graphical feautures and first simulatore which in steering was better using mouse than joystick :-). Now waiting for Aquanox 2, it's much better and retail hard to find...

This game has great action gameplay. It is not a sim. It is more like a cross between a FPS and Descent. While the gameplay is fun, I have to disagree with it having a good story... It is not so much that it has a bad story as that the voice acting is some of the worst in any game EVER and takes a lot away from the experience. My suggestion if you play it, turn off the sound for the voice over parts.

I know I'm off-topic, but for a moment there I thought this was Archimedean Dynasty. Thank you for Aquanox; please also provide AD and I'll buy both. :)
high rated
I've heard this game is pretty...
*sunglasses*
...immersive.

I'd recommend caution approaching this one. I found the missions to be brief and not very satisfying, and the voice acting is horrendous. I guess the soundtrack is appealing if you like techno-hip-hop, which is certainly a unique choice for a shooter, but I personally didn't care for it. It's not a -bad- game, and there is some fun to be had with it, but I don't feel that it's on the same level as Descent.
I also had an issue with mouse lag that eventually caused me to give up in frustration near the end of the game, but I think that's an uncommon issue in the first place, and GOG's version has probably fixed it. I probably would have enjoyed the game more if I didn't have such difficulty lining up my shots.

LordCinnamon: Say, is the music in the trailer taken from the soundtrack?

Coala: It's good or bad? ;)
(and: yes, it is)

Good, actually. Reminds me of MDK2´s soundtrack.
I´ll be picking this up next month or so, when I've recovered from my most recent GOG purchase spree. I remember playing the demo back when it was released, and having a lot of fun with it :)
Archimedean Dynasty is much better game than it's (semi)sequels.
Especially in the story department.
I would recommend Aquanox and Aquanox 2 only to AD fans. :(

klaymen: This is like Archimedean Dynasty's spiritual successor, isn't it?

That's what I hear, and I loved AD! Got it free in a pack with Settlers 2 back in the late 90s. Could never get AD running properly in XP - maybe my USB joypad rather than soundcard gameport joypad was the problem controlling it...
I'm contemplating buying this just to see if it's as good as AD.
Oh cool, I remember playing the demo back in the day. Wishlisted.
I don't remember hearing about this game...Which is very strange for me.
The game actually looks very good in the graphics and music department.
I just don't know how good of a game it is. Length, type of missions/campaign, is it more wing commander than elite? etc
The soundtrack is what might sell the game to me lol. Are the "songs" in the soundtrack longer than 1 min like in the trailer?
Looks like an instant wishlist to me. It caught my eye back in the day. But never got around to playing it.
This kind of looks like a Darkstar 1/Freelancer type game, only under water. Would anyone who has played it call that a fair comparison?

jsdratm: Has anyone here played Sub Culture by Criterion/Ubisoft? Its an underwater game where you control a yellow sub that has various tools on it for fighting and collecting trade goods. I'm hoping that one comes to GOG too. :D

I still have it on CD. Great game.
i played the game when it was released in germany and i liked it...so ill give it a buy.
(ps. the voice acting in german was really good, dont know about english..didnt Gog want to add multiple language versions sooner or later)

I wouldn't. It is much less freeform, more akin to games like Freespace/Starlancer.
