Nooooooooooo!!! Please, don't start another game recommendation thread, this time it seems to be point and click adventures, I'll be stuck here all night!!! T-T

Can't we change it to strategy games? I know nothing about those, so there's none for me to suggest...

hscott2hughes: 1. Using your GOG Downloader, about how long is a typical download for a game this size (about 7GB)? As I type this, it's already been going for about four to five hours, having only achieved 1.27 GB. At this rate, I'm anticipating up to twenty or more hours. Is that typical?
Download speed is rarely super fast, but you should generally see around a megabit if your side supports it. Some users get much higher speeds, some significantly slower. What you're reporting is slower than usual. Might be high download activity on the Easter weekend, or might have something throttling your side. Not very helpful, sorry. :/

hscott2hughes: 2. If I stop to click on a title that interests me, then arrow back to the previous page/list, it reverts back to the very top of the list (the A's) instead of where I left off. [...] Am I missing an easier method?
Ugh, god, yes. Right-click on the title you want to look at and open it in a new tab.

hscott2hughes: Thank you. I look forward to doing business with you.

Welcome to GOG ^_^
Welcome to GOG

1. Depends on your connection. It really does vary from person to person - if you have issues with it, try both the downloader and also via the browser. Downloader should work fine on the default install settings. Personally speaking speeds are 99% maxed out for me whenever i download from GOG.(on my connection)

2. GOG is reportedly working on overhauling the forums (and i suspect the website) at some point, so what you see now might be different down the road - hopefully it will involve something that works better for your personally browsing experience :).
Whoops, labeling the post as SOLVED was an accident and premature (and you can't seem to undo that?) but, regardless, the comments on here have all been very welcoming and, yes, helpful. Thanks folks!

Status update: download began at 3:04 PM. It's now 9:55 PM and exactly 1/3rd of the way through. That's seven hours, so that means fourteen more hours for a total of 21 hours. Wow, Nico is really making me wait for it. She's such a tease.

FURTHER UPDATE: that was two hours ago when I typed that, the post never posted...until now. At 11:52, the download is just under halfway. So about another eight to nine hours to go.

Haha! Now I could go into recommending mode, actually, but I'm still trying to avoid it, since apparently I've developed this OCD towards linking [url=http://www.gog.com/game/primordia]single I mention to it's [url=http://www.gog.com/game/the_dark_eye_chains_of_satinav]GOG page. And that takes up a lot of time.

hscott2hughes: Thanks, I'll investigate further. I can say without hesitation that my connection speed is crap to begin with. Watching online videos, for instance, is very frustrating - even though it's supposed to be "high speed" DSL - it's not. My old dial-up was almost as fast - but alas, that's about all we have available in this area - and we pay a fortune for it.
You can test your internet connection speed on various sites. E.g. I use http://www.speedtest.net/

Just click on the big green "Begin Test" button, and it will check your connection's ping time (latency), download and upload speeds.

Then, based on that, you can tell what should be the maximum speed how fast you can, and should be able to, download also from GOG. Note though that at least sometimes the extras (soundtrack etc.) download slower from GOG, than the actual game installer files.

You can see the download speed on your GOG Downloader window, of course (megabytes/second). Just remember the difference between bytes and bits, ie. if the Speedtest shows 10 Mbps (megabits/second), don't expect to see 10 megabytes/second on your GOG downloader window. :) More like around 1.25 Mbytes/sec or so (with a 10Mbits/sec ADSL line; at least that is what I'm getting, theoretical maximums are not always the reality either). One megabyte per second = 8 megabits per second.

A 7 gigabyte game is quite big installer size though, it would probably take me many many hours on my home 10 megabits/second ADSL line at home as well.

Since the GOG installers are standalone, you can also opt to download them on some other place where the internet speed is faster, copy it to your USB memory stick or hard drive, and carry it home then. When I want to download a bunch of the bigger GOG titles, I sometimes download them at my work instead, as it has almost ten times faster internet connection than my home 10Mbit/s ADSL line (which is speedy enough for general use). I rather wait 30 minutes for a download to complete, instead of several hours.
