Is Vulture still being developed? Last I read it was kind of abandoned...

Not sure
Oh! Best news ever!

comradegarry: Well I'm late to the party but I just found out that a leak development version of NetHack has came out!
It has been almost 11 years without a official release! (please note this is a leak not a release)

I know this isn't big news for everybody but NetHack is a good old roguelike(my favorite game) in fact one of the most popular roguelikes ever made and I thought it needs a shout out.

Source download of leak version: https://acehack.de/~kerio/nethack-3.5.0.tar.gz
Play online using ssh: ssh acehack@acehack.de

EDIT: Also I got it compiled on linux if anybody needs any help in that area, it's slightly different now compared to older versions.
Please wake me when there's a decent tile set for it :) I cannot into ASCII :P
Nice! But I too will hold off until the official release. My favourite roguelikes are the Angbands, but NetHack is a lot of fun too.

Does Falcon's Eye not work for the new one? I realise it's not a tileset so much as a full on isometric front end, however.

When I last tried Falcon's Eye, it was missing a lot of graphics for monsters etc.
I myself prefer the (at least in the version 3.4.3) built in tileset.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how current it was with the game. Sounds like it needs work to remain relevant.

One_of_Many: Downloaded! :)

Anyway, I don't know if I want to play another version of NetHack, which isn't considered ready for release yet, and maybe it will never be.
I played it, plays fine for me for the most part. It is mainly bug fixes from 3.4.3; I did read some of the artifacts don't grant MR like they did before though.

k1bell: Speaking of roguelikes anyone has a good futuristic (lasers, power armors or even mecha) freeware roguelike to recommend?
RogueBasin is probably the biggest source of available roguelikes out there. Here is their science-fiction list, complete with sub-topics:

comradegarry: Well it doesn't have mecha I don't think.. or power armor.. but I heard ASCII Sector is good. (http://www.asciisector.net/)
Thanks for the recommendation, will give it a try.

Interesting news! I didn't expect them to ever release a new version.

I haven't played Nethack in over a decade. I got frustrated when my promising Valkyrie almost succeeded at completing the quest, only to die near the end.
Glory! Never won, never will....but a great game.
