I've been using 1and1 for the last five years. The only problem I've had is that when my paying credit card passed it's expiration date a few years back, I didn't get a warning reminder and lost service for a day until I figured out what was going on. Put in a new exp date and everything was back to normal.
I pay a whopping $74 for two sites for a year. This is a home package though I do run one of them as a business info site (no e-commerce). I'm allowed 1200 addresses total and I get 2 GB for each mailbox. Webmail works fine, and the accounts also play nice with smartphones.
The packages might be quite different from when I signed up, but at least give them a look: www.1and1,com
