Are you sure you're entering the code into the right field? Hit the blue box in the top left corner, then 'Tools', then 'Activate Game CD or Gift', then paste into the top field and 'Activate'?

Forgive me if you're already doing this, but it sounds from your post like you've been trying to use your code in the purchasing process instead of as a key.
