Yup, ya got it right :) Your turn!
OK, lets see if someone knows this:

Thursday, September 13, 247

Three of the morning.
What is the point of going to bed if you will just lie awake? Now only did I have to think of all that must be done, dreading the days to come, but now I could not forget that I would do it without Pounce. I am so Undone by the thought that I could not sleep. Achoo did her best to console me, but in the end I left her in bed alone. I set about packing instead, uniforms, breeches and tunics, and my few dresses. I made certain to put the special Dog tools and devices, like my mage-proof gloves and my lock-stuffing clay, into my pack in case I need them. We are only supposed to gather information, but as I have learned over and over in this work, everything goes awry, given time.

Its fantasy from the last years

Nobody?
Well this is the middle of a trilogy. They are named after different dog races (well if that isn't enough if post the name)

Is it Bloodhound by Tamora Pierce?

Yes,
your turn
Here's one for you all.

It was a nice day.
All the days had been nice. There had been rather more than seven of them so far, and rain hadn't been invented yet. But clouds massing east of Eden suggested that the first thunderstorm was on its way, and it was going to be a big one.
The angel of the Eastern Gate put his wings over his head to shield himself from the first drops.
"I'm sorry," he said politely. "What was it you were saying?"
"I said, that one went down like a lead balloon," said the serpent.
"Oh. Yes," said the angel, whose name was Aziraphale.
"I think it was a bit of an overreaction, to be honest," said the serpent. "I mean, first offense and everything. I can't see what's so bad about knowing the difference between good and evil, anyway."
"It must be bad," reasoned Aziraphale, in the slightly concerned tones of one who can't see it either, and is worrying about it, "otherwise you wouldn't have been involved."
Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's masterpiece Good Omens!

This book is what led me from Discworld to The Sandman collection, haha.

That was fast. My wife has bought many copies of this one over the years to give to people so they would read it.

Your turn.
Your wife sounds like a wonderful and wise person. I never lend books out, instead I give them.

This next excerpt may be a little more obscure, however it is one of the most popular in its genre.

""What were you doing here? Why were you a prisoner of these goblins? I've always heard the minotaurs were allies of the ogres."

The crimson illumination of the moon gave the former captive's eyes a fearsome look. "Slave soldiers would be a better term, Knight of Solamnia. We are no more than slaves to our cousins. They hold our lands and our families as hostages, though the word they use is protection. That is why we do what they cannot. One day, though, it will be the minotaurs who will rule. We await that day.""

Something from DragonLance, but the particular book escapes me. Legend of Huma? No, probably not. Aside from the originals, it's been a long time since I've read any.

You're right, it was Legend of Huma by Richard A Knaak. It was my favorite of the DragonLance series, its sequel Kaz the Minotaur is an excellent read as well.

You're up, DieRue.

Wow, ok. Let's see...

He went out into the night, uncomfortable in his stride for the first block or two, and emerged from the narrow streets of the Marais to cross the Pont Louis Phillippe with the Seine sliding under the bridge and the bridge touched by the moon.
Bumping this thread, seems to be forgotten.

Nope, but I agree, it reads like it could be.

It's something a bit more mainstream. Well, there was a series of books, and this is one that wasn't quite as well-known.
