Interesting that you said that... I think I was subliminally thinking the same. There's a kind of quirky comfort that comes with plain-text smilies... but then again I spent too much time on IRC as a kid.
Having said that, the emoticons look great, Rubberduck! The yellow ones look a little green to me, but that could be my monitor.

Yup, I too like text emoticons (IRC, IRC) more than those drawn.
