The two that got to me as an adult were

the ending of the first Jeepers Creepers

which was trashy gore

and the ending of The Wickerman (70's version)

which was a quality and classic scare.

Oh crap! I just remembered one of the ones that bugged me as a kid wasn't even a horror movie, it was a spy movie.

I don't know what it was called but this villain assassinated people by sticking their heads up through holes in the floor of a room and set off little soldier / drummer boy toys that would explode if they made contact with the victim's head.

Can't think of a single movie that scarred my as a child. But this topic has reminded me of a scene of some guy ripping the heart out of someone by some force/power/magic without having to touch them. I just can't remember which movie (it wasn't Temple of Doom).

Sounds like Mortal Kombat.

Dun dun dun dun dun dun MORTAL KOMBAT!!!
No movies scarred me during my childhood and I watched a lot of horror flicks back then.
Walking in on my dad and his girlfriend going at it scarred me though.. and it's kind of like a movie, but in my head.

I wasn't a child when Mortal Kombat cam out. No, this movie, whatever it was, was older than that. Probably mid to late eighties.
Someone mentioned Watership Down earlier... an excellent choice but I think this scene has to be MUCH worse than the one posted

Sorry about the music, I couldn't find the original version
With 7 or 8 I saw "E.T." I liked the film (and still do) but the scene where ET dies and the people around try to reanimate him with electro shocks was simply terrible for me. I wasn´t able to sleep after that.
The black dogs in "Animal Farm" gave me nightmares
didn't scar me but i specifically remember the thing in 'The Thing' transforming from a dog into the thing. Probably remember that more because my dad tried to stop me from watching it more than what was actually going on,
