Happening to me suddenly, never had that before.
Now there is a solution of either buy a new mouse or this program which seems to fix it

But i somewhat dislike the idea of having to keep running that in the background, does anyone know of a permanent fix to this?

Changing the speed in mouse options didn't seem to fix it.

What kind of mouse is it?

Likely you need to disassemble it and clean it with rubbing alcohol.

Microsoft mouse/keyboard, not an expensive one.

One would think if something got dirty it would rather not register a click rather then double clicking but yeah i can try that.

Being plugged in with power could slowly kill as well, electronics can go bad...

I remember the conversation my dad and someone had about his modem, how he never 'used' it in the three or four years he had the computer... but if you think about it, every minute it's plugged in, it's taking a small portion of power and sending electrical signals through it...

Reminds me.. Might get some QD contact cleaner... Awesome if you need to clean a card or something and make it like new :)

Thanks, oh yeah i get 10 hours a day easily, closer to 14. I am afraid it might be dieing too, might just go for a whole new mouse/keyboard together then as this keyboard whenever i try to clean it lately, it leaves black stains on the desk too.
Would loved to get a razor mouse or something like that but financially it isn't the right time, so will have to stick to a cheap combination.
Just wanted to make sure first that it isn't something Windows related.

That was a problem that pestered me with a mouse I got. It would once in a while (once and later more times per day) double-click when I meant single click after one year of usage and it would only go away after making multiple clicks, only to return later. Even after I upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows XP, the problem would persist and not go away till I eventually replaced the mouse.

I had to RMA a Logitech Anywhere MX. This is what they suggested first:

According to your description, it would appear that your product may have developed a hardware issue, however, before we assume that this is the case, I would like you to try a few basic troubleshooting steps:

1. Turn off the mouse
2. Remove batteries
3. Press alternatively left and right buttons during 20 seconds
4. Press and keep pressing the left button
5. Replace batteries
6. While keeping left button pressed push 5 times the right button
7. Release left button
8. Turn on the mouse


Didn't help with my mouse so got a replacement mouse under warranty. Typically superb support from Logitech :) although disappointingly the replacement Anywhere MX is recenetly suffering the same problem :(

At least it isn't a VERY LOUD CLICKITY KEYBOARD TTHAT ENJJOYS DOUBLE LLETTTERS! (God I hated that thing... so many typos for no reason at all).

You could try to stick with this mouse for a few more weeks, to see how the problem evolves. I can remember one case where the problem disappeared for a couple of weeks (I think almost two months), before it reappeared heavily. I'm just very impatient with this double clicking (or not clicking), because it's very distracting at work if you always have to check if your mouse did everything right -.- I'd always recommend to get something cheap for work. Just go through some Amazon reviews for Euro 30+ Logitech mice. You'll find lots of people who report the random double clicking, some of them even after a couple of months (I think I've been lucky so far).

With my finances i have to limit with 30 total for both mouse and keyboard.
But is this only a thing with cordless mice or also with cord? If it's maybe a receiver thing.

The mouse I described above was a wired one.

I had both kind of mice and both had the same problem. I think it's more a problem with the button (the contacts or the spring) beeing outworn :/

Okay then it doesn't seem to matter which one i would get.
