I think it would be a really nice touch if we could jazz up our game shelf in different ways, it would really capitalise on the 'collector' aspect of things. Anyone else agree?

Yeah this is a much requested thing. GOG have hinted that when the Galaxy of Games client is released they'll be a website update also. So hopefully they'll be something then.
