One of the masters of modern comics has passed. Long live Moebius.

I don't know how many comic book fans are out there, but here's Neil Gaimans little memorial piece for the master.

Too bad, especially when someone who does something different passes away.

Don't know how well is known around the world, considering how much of comics consists of mostly the superhero genre from the US.
Shit.

When I saw the post I really hoped some emo rock star or something with the same name died.

I really liked his work.
Sad indeed.
He sounds pretty interesting. Is there any particular work of his that is worth reading? I tried looking around and I couldn't find any books by him.

If you are into western comics, Moebius did Blueberry. Incal is often recommended in sci-fi. He also drew quite interesting story about Galactus and Silversurfer called Parable.

He did work with both, his artist name and his real name Jean Giraud.

Terrible news :(

@evilguy12: I'd recommend "The Airtight Garage" ("Le Garage Hermétique de Jerry Cornelius").

Also, on a more obscure level, he did the other art design for Alien (the stuff not done by Giger, so everything that doesn't look like genitals) and a lot for the fith element.

And Blueberry is probably his most famous work. Some of the covers he drew are simply breathtaking.

I can only repeat the blog here:

RIP Jean Giraud, 8 May 1938 - 10 March 2012
RIP indeed my friend - your images will live on - Excelsior
Looked on Amazon and pretty much everything is out of print. Oh well, maybe with his death they'll do some reprints.

You might want to check a local comic book store. Mine had plenty of his work in stock (The whole Blueberry run, eg.) last time I was there.
He went out knowing people like Neil Gaiman and legions of fans loved and admired his work. I can't think of anything that better illustrates "legacy" than that. Good for him, I hope he found peace during his life.
