Torchlight offers a nearly perfect hack-and-slash experience, but even in near-perfection there’s always some room for improvement and customization. That’s where one of the greatest advantages of PC gaming comes into action: fan-made mods. Here’s our list of the most interesting and entertaining Torchlight mods:

Emberfiend Mod
Ever wanted to gather materials and craft your own weapons in Torchlight? Well, now you can! Emberfiend Mod adds a whole crafting system to the game along with tools, resources, recipes, and even new NPCs that offer you advice in the craft. The items you create are potentially far more powerful than the ones you can find and the reusable Enchantment Shrine will let you give them unique attributes. On top of that, the Emberfiend Mod greatly expands the area your hero can explore by adding new dungeons, mines, a library, and a whole new section of the town. And if you become weary in your travels you can always take a break in one of the newly opened taverns, which are also used for recruiting additional party members. The mod has been carefully designed so that the game remains well balanced despite the scale of alterations it introduces.

Torchlight offers you three character classes to match your dungeoncrawling style--a brutish, macho-style Destroyer, a beautiful and stealthy female Vanquisher, and the steampunk-styled scholar, the Alchemist--full of boyish charm. But what if you want to play as a hardcore, heavily-armed heroine? The game gives you no such option. That is, until you install the GenderMod, which adds three more playable classes: Valkyrie, which is a female version of the Destroyer, Executioner, the male alternative to Vanquisher, or an Enchantress, female adept of the alchemical arts.

Diablo Minimal HUD and Font
Installing this mod combo will allow you to play Torchlight with an interface closely resembling the one from the other great hack-and-slash title. Everyone knows that reading a quest description put in a strong, Gothic font makes the task at hand seem far more ominous and hardcore. And the other benefit you get is a less cluttered gamescreen with a better view of the action.

Merchant Pack Mod
This nifty little mod adds map, fish, gem, spell, potion, and ranged weapon vendors across the town of Torchlight. It also offers some tweaks and changes to the mechanics spawning items in merchants’ inventories.

SSS Torchlight Texture Project Mod
Torchlight offers a nice cartoon-like graphical style that never goes out of fashion. But if you prefer more detailed and realistic textures download this mod now. The amount of work that was put into making Torchlight feel more crisp and natural is simply astounding. It’s a complete re-imagination of the game’s aesthetics, changing the mood and making it more believable. See it for yourself!

Bloodygoodgames: LOL, I'm the same. I want to play it how the developers meant it to be played and not how Joe Shmoe messing around on his computer in his basement thinks it should be played :)
In the Steam version of the game, there's an achievement for playing the game with 1, 5, or 10 mods installed. So you can say that playing with mods is how the developers meant it to be played.

Not really. They just know people like to mod :)

Using mods is a personal like or dislike. Personally, I don't like them. For me, there are just too many games out there to play to keep replaying the same games with various mods. Other people love them and like to replay with various mods. Just personal taste, nothing more :)
Ah, they've fixed it. Very nice.
Thanks for the details of the mods never knew there was so many good ones.
Nice article, GOG team!

I enjoyed Torchlight gameplay in the past, but the graphical style was too much cartoonish for me, so I ended playing. Now thanks to "SSS Torchlight Texture Project Mod" I can finaly finish it, because saves from Cloud are fully functional and game looks much better and realistic to me.

So, thank you!

iirc (been a long time since I played TL), there used to be a mod to help install the mods, probably a link at runic or some other players here will remember more about it, but for luddites like me, it was a great help.

I would love to get a mod for either this or Diablo 2 that turns it into Dead Rising.
Ok, i'm toasted. Getting hands on Torchlight and downloding these mods right away! :)

p.s. I hope that all THESE mods are working togather without problems?

Very very nice spotlight. This is gold for a TL rookie (as I am).

But why is this posted in the general forum? This should be in the TL forum and made a sticky.
Oh! Nice list of mods for Torchlight.

But what I would like to read is that Torchlight 2 is coming to GOG :D

Indeed.

Psyringe: However, when you ask for "mods for casual gamers", you're basically asking for useful instructions on how to construct a build-it-yourself cupboard, for people who have no hands.
I am SO stealing this analogy for my collection, you know. Now all I need is a chance to throw it in a discussion :-)

About TL I feel even more tempted to get it now that I learned of these mods, but my backlog keeps increasing on me. And if I can't shrink it even when I'm buying primarily a kind of game that has a smaller replayability (adventures) imagine getting a game that can be played over and over like TL. So I'll pass again

demongamesuk: The camera mod is awesome too...

Holy crap, my new second favorite mod!!! What is the first you ask? More stash space!!!!

kalmis666: Had no idea TL had so many mods. Or any for that matter. So cool.
They ship the toolset they use to make the game with the game, TorchED, it's one of the most moddable games around.

JudasIscariot: You can make threads into Favorite threads by clicking the box on the right side of the thread and it will go into your Favorite threads section and stay on top of the General Discussion forum :D

Hope that helps.

SimonG: Yeah, making a link on the store page would make no sense at all ... ;-P. Or, god forbid, a sticky in the subforum.
Of course I can :) There to many favorites on my list. My prefer move and sticky this thread to Torchlight section.
