Microsoft said on Wednesday that it will be offering a complimentary copy of Microsoft Office Professional 2010 to technical beta testers.
In an email from the Office 2010 Technical Beta program team, Microsoft officials thanked participants for their involvement in the technical beta program. "As a small token of appreciation, we'd like to give you a complimentary copy of Microsoft Office Professional 2010" the email read. The copy is a downloadable ISO and Microsoft has provided testers with a product key, no physical media is provided.

One thing bugs me tough, is the mentioned Technical Beta Program the same with Technical Preview Program? Because I was in the TPP, and haven't yet received any emails on this subject from Microsoft.
Did any of you guys in TPP receive anything?
Not yet. Hoping thought :D
Meh, I'm fine with Office 2003 here thanks. Anyway I'm planning to subscribe to Microsoft TechNet asap to download all the friggin' software (operating systems, mostly) I need so, again... meh :-P
So if you didn't use any beta at all, no free Office 2010?
Meh, our school probably has some I can get for a good price.
I took part in two different Office 2010 technical previews via Connect; that gives me two chances to win, right? ;)
Still waiting for my free copy to be sent from the head department. No sign yet.
I don't need it, I rarely use 2007, but will have to learn it to help others.
Has anyone tried the Office tie-ins with Windows Live accounts? Looks like it works basically like an MS version of Google Docs.

Golf is really awesome, just look at Tiger Woods!
Speaking of Office, how the bleeding fuck do Microsoft justify £300 for a single user Professional license? That's ridiculous. The team is comprised of a relatively modest number and everyone who has a fucking Windows install has or will have Office at some point. It's 100% profit no matter how much you charge.
How can a suite of tools for typing shit and making it look pretty cost more than an entire OS? Someone tell me, please.

Because its aimed at business users? :)
MS has no competitors in the office apps arena so they can charge whatever they want. Windows has to compete against Mac and Linus so the price is lower. They were practically giving Win 7 away to students for $30 during that sale.

"Yeah those bozos own a company so they can afford £300. No one but Giganto Corp Inc will want Pro anyway, right?"

Because you use Publisher? Or Access? Or even Outlook to it's full potential (integration with Exchange server)? Heck, I even doubt you use OneNote.
Considering that most people only use Word and PowerPoint then yes, the Office Home and Student for $150 (that's without university discount for example) is more than enough. Heck, you even get 3 fucking licenses for 150 so get two more friends and split the price.
If you really need databases (lol at Access), Exchange integration and publishing capabilities then you better pony up the money. Development for those things isn't cheap.

Giganto Corp doesn't pay the $300 either; any reasonably-sized business can get heavily discounted Microsoft software via volume licensing or Software Assurance; the latter includes the ability to upgrade to newer versions for no extra cost for the duration of your contract, and for both plans the per-system price goes down as the total number of systems covered goes up.
If you have business-level software needs but don't qualify for either of the above you'll need to pay for it.
