in 2006 Microsoft released Mech Commander 2 source sode:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=6d790cde-c3e5-46be-b3a5-729581269a9c&DisplayLang=en

I was wondering if anyone at GoG.com ever thought to check the license for this game and try to get it available here.

Cheers all
The problem is that even when a game is open source, that doesn't mean its completely free no questions asked. In the case of mech commander 2 all the code that made up the framework and rules of the game is free so modders can play with it but things like the textures, audio, fmv etc isn't part of it so if GOG wanted to sell it (or even give it away free), they'd still need to negotiate a deal with microsoft
While a deal with MS could be done (The Mektek guys proved that) it's a pain and a LOT of waiting. Does the current version have any issues running on XP or Win7?
well might as well bring freelancer here and age of empires hmm not a bad idea !!!
