One of my favorite games that I remember to this day was Mechwarrior 2 and its expansion Ghost bears legacy,( and I will go ahead and date myself and add the ORIGINAL gold box Pool of Radiance). If you haven't played Mechwarrior 2 its an awesome game. It is the entry of the Clans into the Inner Sphere. It had a Clan Wolf and a Clan Jade Falcon campaign.
Graphics are dated by today's standards of course but I remember them releasing a TITANIUM edition with updated graphics as well ( not updated to today's standards sadly, this was the 3dfx era). Is there anyone else that would be intrested in seeing GOG carry this awesome game from the past.
Actually while I am at it, how about the Mechcommander RTS series as well :)
I couldn't stand the Mechcommander games, personally.

But I had the original Mechwarrior 2 game as well, though I have no clue where it's gotten off to.

And while the graphics may be dated, they're not bad. I don't look down on older graphics, but the style of this game still stands up just fine.

Thumbs up for the MechCommander games. I don't know what's not to like - they were great (still are). /Shrug
I didn't care for them because I like the personal story of one dude actually inside the cockpit. I want to play the soldier, not the general.
The MechCommander games are freeware now.
Yeah mechcommander is freeware, but still nice to get in a good package. Mechwarrior 2 however is hard as crap to find outside of illegal means or amazon. And it would be great to have it spruced up GOG style. And Mechwarrior 2 is my main wish :)
Mechwarrior 4 mercenaries is of course freeware, and you can get it and the fan made updates over at mektek.com. Highly recommended if you ever played the mechwarrior games.

A little odd to resurrect a month-old thread.

Anyway, does anyone know where can I get the MechCommander games? They're supposed to be freeware, but the site where they used to be found (mechcommander.org) has been down for a long time.

I haven't found a legit source since...
Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries may be freeware now, but Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance is not. We need that game, and all the other mechwarrior games that are not freeware, like Mechwarriors 1-3 and 2 Mercenaries.

Mech Commander 1 is not Freeware.. neither is Mech Commander 2. Otherwise you would find it sure on Mektek.
BUT Microsoft released a Mech Commander 2 package for XNA which is fully playable on Single Player.

The legit source: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=6d790cde-c3e5-46be-b3a5-729581269a9c
This is the Shared Source release for MechCommander 2. This release contains all of the source code and source assets required to build MechCommander 2. This release can be used with the Microsoft XNA Build March 2006 Community Technology Preview (CTP)
Because this release is not targeted on consumers, instead on people developing or learning to develop games it is a bit a "wierd" release. But hey it includes the sourcecode and the assets and is already compiled too!

1. Download the MC2.exe file.
2. Run the MC2.exe file. It will extract 2 files to a destination of your choice. The two files are MechCommander2.msi and Readme.rtf.
3. If the MechCommander2.msi file does not start after running MC2.exe, do so.
4. MechCommander2.msi will install the source code at (by default) C:/MechCommander2 Source
5. Open up C:/MechCommander2 Source/FinalBuild and you will see several files. Look for and run MC2Pro.exe
3DFX and the titanium edition of the MW3 saga was awesome.

I also REALLY WANT any of teh TSI games like Pool of Radiance!!
