Hi there..
I must say this site is awsome, I plan on getting a few games with out a dought. messaih is first on the list. I just built a new computer, and im using vista now and one of my favorite games is mech warrior mercanarys. It was one of the first games i installed too. Well the other games i loaded in have worked fine, but this one i cant seam to get to run. It just hangs on start. I installed no probs, and i can get the basic part to start, aka put disk in, the pop up comes up and you click on PLAY to start the game. It just hangs there..
Is this game just too old and is a perfect reason it should be here? Or does anyone know if it will run somehow??
If it is a contender for this site.. I will say its a great game.. 2002 still has the best mech game to date.. though i would say id love to see mech 2 and mech 3 along with the expansions on this great site... is there some where to post requests? *grin
A mercenary Canary?!?!
Anyway, it sounds like your game probably isn't compatible with your operating system.
EDIT:
Yup, if you have a modern day OS (WinXP, Vista) it is incompatible with it.

heh, looks like other people had the same idea already.. over 200 votes on um.. though i guess its behind the planescape votes just a tad.
this will be great if old titles like this can be found and picked up cheap and conveinent.

I don't see how that can be Wec, at least in the case of XP (Vista, not so surprised about). The game was released on XP so how is it now incompatible with it? It was a game made by MS and I can't imagine they would make a game that didn't work with their current OS at the time. Not to mention, the previous MW4 game, Vengeance, works just fine on XP. Technically, Mercenaries is a stand-alone expansion of Vengeance, so if Vengeance works on XP, Mercenaries must.

Stupid Question, but have you applied the latest patch for the game?

this is what you're referring to, I suppose.
And also the November 7th 2002 release date.

I believe the OP is talking about Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. Which was released on Win95. Its a game I am having problems running as well.
In an earlier thread of mine on this same sublect I was given this site: http://sites.google.com/site/mw2mercxp/ It was able to get me into the game, but it was so choppy as to be unplayable. I obviously have some more tweaking to do.
Developer: Activision
Release date: 1996
System requirements DOS: 486, 8 MB RAM, 2X CD-ROM drive
Windows: Pentium 90 MHz, 12 MB RAM, 4X CD-ROM drive
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MechWarrior_2:_31st_Century_Combat (scroll down a bit to get to Mercenaries)

I really doubt he was referring to that, considering he specifically mentioned the 2002 release year of the game and MW 2, 3 and their expansions separately from it.

Well then he should have been because mech 2 mercs is far better than the mech 4 merc game. :)
If you are indeed talking about MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries, I know just the thing to help get it running on modern systems.

Unfortunately, the game still seems to not want to work on my modern Vista system...but my older XP-based PC from 2002 will now run the game just fine because of it.
