Why does GOG (installer maybe?) create so many different GOG folders several different places to place the games in?

Sure I can always move them around as I please, and I'm quite certain that I did not make them install this way. I'm just wondering why its made like this(unless I unknowingly did it myself). I have counted at least 3 different folders where my GOG games are installed.
Well there's the download location and installed location. My download location changed to C: root, probably clicked weirdly or something changed with that downloader.
The three folders erect a triangular matrix that help GOG localize your computer in space.

Or it's because the 2.0 installers use new paths because of improved compatibility.

Take your pick :-P
Or it's because your computer is demonically possessed!!

Oh right.. They almost made a game of it. =D
Thanks to everyone for the humorous and informative replies. *Wonders what GOG needs my location in space for*

Might be unpopular, but I'm going with the first ;)
