I just saw this. It's a "greenband" trailer, but you still see some significant blood and even a guy getting his eyeball punched out (in epic slomo, of course :D). Not really something that offends me, but I'm surprised. Are they getting more lenient about what they show in trailers now? I suppose they assume the trailer's only going to be shown at "not for children" films anyway?
Oh, it's a Tarantino movie! No wonder they got away with it.

And yeah, this trailer would not be normally shown to children so all the over the top violence is fine.

Naw, it's a RZA movie. Tarantino's just "presenting" it.

I love the fact that they advertise it as "made by and starring RZA". The first time I saw a trailer for the movie I just went: who the fuck is that? Naturally, I don't really listen to his kind of music, so why would I know? That and the fact that I typically have no idea who these people are that keep hiding behind some silly initials for their alter egos.

That said, the movie does look like it could be quite a fun watch with its traditional Chinese martial arts flair meets Western violence and humor.

And Russell Crow!

And Lucy Liu! I've really liked her ever since I first saw her in Ally McBeal. Haven't seen much of her lately though.
Russel Crowe must be having financial trouble.

But as for gory trailers - I was already quite surprised when I saw the Punisher War Zone trailer a couple of years ago:

A chair's leg piercing a guy's eye, another guy getting his face smashed, yet another guy's face exploding when hit with a shotgun at point blank range etc.. Okay, it's not a theatrical trailer but even one of those included a few of these scenes.

Wow. That was pretty violent, yeah.

Looks like a brutally fun movie. Was it any good?

As one professional reviewer put it: "It's the best bad movie I have ever seen."
It's certainly not a good movie, the plot is mediocre, the villains are uninspired, but there's a surprising amount of good moments, especially the action is top-notch. While it's a worse movie than the 2004 Punisher it's the better adaptation of the comics (if that is of any meaning to you). If you're just looking for a gory action-flick with a vigilante and sociopath in the main role you shouldn't be disappointed.

Edit: It's a huge plus if you enjoy ridiculously cruel and imaginative anti-heroes. It's the reason why my brother and me had a great time watching it. ^^
