Crosmando: In the grim darkness of the 21st Century, there is only indie shovelware platformers with cartoon graphics.
And adventure games.

And more adventure games.

And when you're done with those, we have some adventure games for you.

Elmofongo: Also GTA 5 looks gorgeous:

keeveek: Bro, it already looks substandard.

For example, look at this wall texture:

I am fine with that, because every GTA game had worse graphics than the standard, but they were great games nonetheless.
Than what games do you like that has gorgeous graphics and great gameplay? and it could be games that from the time had gorgeous graphics like Metroid Prime and Resident Evil Remake.

Lowe0: The problem is that I can get a lot of this stuff already on Steam. I don't come here for Steam 2. I come here for the stuff no one else is doing - classic games, restored to run on modern systems, preserved with their supporting documentation, and packaged into a coherent collection.
Ah, get out of here with that nonsense. I'd rather buy the games here than at shitty DRM-encrusted Steam. I like the classics too, but I still would like to see the newer games released without DRM.

Elmofongo: Hey we got System Shock 2,Wizardry and Penumbra/Amnesia and Tomb Raider among others this year.

Just be patient good games will arrive.
- System Shock 2: Sure it's a great game, but not nearly as fun without playing System Shock 1 first. Which there are no plans to put on the site in the forseeable future.

- Penumbra/Amnesia have been widely available DRM-free for years.

- the classic Tomb Raider series was released here in 2012.

So other than Wizardy, we are 8 months into the year without any amazing releases (especially classic ones) from any genre. I think the disappointment is justified.

1. I still think it will come to GOG (it will somwhow)

2. Yeah but to people like me who does not made too many accounts in other game site, its justified.

3. Forgot about that, it felt like it came in 2013 though.

Well regarding the other list I made they are pretty tough to get old school pc games these days, with Blizzard, Bethesda, Valve, Microsoft, Take-Two, and LucasArts being tough nuts to crack while EA, Square-Enix, and Ubisoft are bring Stingy with the remaining classics that they have.

Which is precisely why SS2 sits in my backlog, unplayed possibly to eternity. The horror!
This idea that GOG sits on awesome classic releases 'cause "fuck them users" always amuses me.

When they can get a deal for more classics we'll see them sold here.

I'm not even looking for awesome classics, but they can't have tapped out all of the good ones. I'd rather they go back and try to expand on the relationships they have than bring me yet another indie game. They seem to have a pretty good thing going with Activision; why not try to mine that a little more for some of Sierra's catalog (Earthsiege, Battledrome) or some of the other stuff they put out in the mid-nineties (Heavy Gear, Battlezone)? Or work with EA to bring up more classics (they already have more Wing Commander games in the pipeline right now, but how about Road Rash or Hi-Octane)?
We need more RPG's. Too many adventure games (or it seems we get an awful lot on here)

I'm sure they want to do all of that. It's more complicated than phoning up Activision and having them email a quick permission slip. They have to renegotiate terms every time, they have to make sure the games can be sold worldwide, they have to make sure they work on Windows 7 64bit and probably a bunch of other behind the scenes stuff.

I can guarantee you that if we had no indie releases the classic releases would be just as far apart, or damn close to it. There's no reason for them to sit on their bread and butter.

Oh, you never know. Politics or business dictates that timing is everything. Release the wrong game during the wrong time and you miss potential sales. However, that they would hold on to them because they can or to be spiteful is highly unlikely.

Well yeah, they might wait weeks or a small number of months for the right timing. By shelved I mean they wouldn't be like "aww screw that game, put it on the shelf."

Yeah, I'm sure they waited for 3 years to release Shadowgrounds: Survivor because legal limbo and compability issues.

Oh wait.

I'm pretty sure their release schedule is revolving around sales, and that makes some sense. For example, they released Conflict: Desert Storm and it sold badly. So now keeveek may never see Desert Storm 2 released, because it's not worth their effort. Or they are going to release it in 2015 when there will be a time when they decide they don't have anything better to drop.

This is the problem with GOG release schedule, they have slots. If they "use" some release slot, they will not release anything else during that period. It's not a problem on steam, when they may release 10 games one day, 0 games the second day and 3 games the next day.

Why there was a month or so gap between releasing Cultures 1+2 and Cultures 3+4? Because legal limbo and compability issues? Oh wait.

And i'm pretty sure they are sitting on a lot of indie games now, but they release games in small portions, and they will never break that "rule". So if they have planned releases for months ahead, that really means they are sitting on some classics ready to release as well.

But not for years, of course. Many times they seem to decide "game X is not worth our time" and they don't release it. As I've said, usually because the first part of the series didn't sell well.
