Magic Carpet was a Bullfrog game and the Bullfrog catalog is now own by EA. I'm guessing that it has to do with the way that EA operates, even if one office decides that it wants to sign with GOG, they would have to work out worldwide rights, which would be a real pain.

I'm sure it will be here eventually, but I wouldn't count on that happening any time soon.
Thanks!
that must be it.

Unfortunately it is almost certainly why.

But, I definitely agree with the sentiment, it was a pretty amazing game. I remember loading it up. I had never seen anything like that in my life.
It was fantastic. Hugely fun, pretty tough in a lot of places. Very creative. I think it got the highest rating PC Gamer ever gave out up to that time. And that's when magazine ratings were often worth considering.

I still hear a sound effect that I first heard in that game all over the place -- movies, games, ,TV, even music.

There are times when it's immensely satisfying to be wrong.

Of course since I had just bought Dungeon Keeper I wish they had led with Magic Carpet, but hey, I'm not about to complain about that.
I'm pretty sure the ps1 version is on PSN if you really want to play it.
