Aliasalpha: Thats why you evade them, switch cars then drive like a normal person

I normally drive to my usual spot to evade them. The path leading up a small hill facing the coast. Nice place to exit the vehicle and look at scenery all the while feeling like a made man. Awesome feeling.

Ugh, the handling was godawful. It made me give up halfway. Shame though, nice story.

That usually only happened when people were playing it like GTA

GTA games of old had fun cars to drive. I didn't expect it to be GTA, I expected the gameplay to be good anyway. And since driving is about 80% of the time...

acare84: And Mafia 2 will use Steamworks as a DRM. I hope they will make deal and if you pre purchase Mafia 2 you will get Mafia. Can't wait for this game I will pre-purchase from Steam when it is available.

Yeah, now you mention it that seems like exactly what they have in mind here. I wouldn't mind getting the first one again as I couldn't install my old copy anymore. I think I wore the discs out.
Everything I've seen of Mafia II convinces me it will disappoint. Granted, not much is out there, and they've had a nice long development time to get it right, but I'm still weary.

actually driving is only 50% of the game. half of the mission happen on foot.
and gta is different game than mafia. GTA is unrealistic, simple fun (at least gta3 games, didn't yet play GTAIV)
while Mafia was realistic game where cars behaved (most of the time) like they did in the past...
so no doing 90 degrees turns at 80 mph as even if you could get a car to go that fast in 1930 you would break it apart if you tried to make a turn...

Would be amazing if it was coming to GOG as well. I've loved Mafia since it came out, the story is top notch and the missions are really good. Not to say anything bout the city, which tops the GTA ones with ease (ok, not sure about GTA 4's, but, they're a generation apart)
Also, I seem to remember the special edition of the game coming with a city map, that would be a nice extra like GOG likes to offer ;)

Looks like a fun game, if GOG offered it I'd probably add it to my shelf...
What a coincidence, I had just been playing Mafia since Monday, and today I finally uninstalled it. After playing GTA I can't stand playing this. The driving is slow, going uphill is a chore. Making realistic at the expense on fun is not good imo. The city was great though, i think i may try it again only for the Freeride thing, where it's like GTA, just run around, shoot gansters, steal cars and such. It's interesting that the city in Mafia does look like something from GTA IV, and Mafia was made back during the gta3 era. Oh, and at one point, while driving, i fell off the map. Yes, the car fell off the damn street and into a pit. That's why i uninstalled it.

Nope, you're not driving 80% of the time. Actually I'll take Mafia's driving anytime, it feels better than GTA, the starting cars are slow but once you get the mid-game or late-game cars it's awesome. And the racing ones drive like a beast. And manual gear ftw too. :D

I take Mafia over GTA anytime, Mafia's kinda like an epic masterpiece to me while GTA is just another game, my fav GTA Vice City comes close to epicness but not to Mafia's level. I love the driving in Mafia too. You need to play it for the story then, else you're missing alot.

It's not region locked, Valve have removed the product page for all regions. Which is what they tend to do when people find such pages early.
