KavazovAngel: Different taste, maybe. Personally, I can't stand GTA's ganstas / American pimps / b.tches / rap / crap or whatever other bullshit kids speak / behave like in the USA today.

They're a lot smarter than you give them credit for... it's like South Park, the social commentary is there in spades underneath a surface-level juvenile aesthetic.

True, but then again most of them are exactly like how he said xD

Well, I dislike rap, gangta culture and everything else like that but I still love the GTA cutscenes. To me they are more about making fun of that stuff than celebrating it, the core of every game is basically smart crook mocks and abuses idiots while making money from them.
I guess if you are opposed to even being exposed to such things it would be a no-go.

Oh, i'm not opposed to anything. I was just saying there is more than a few kids/adults emulate it a bit too much. And I like all the GTAs the only one I didn't like was San Andreas where they laid it on a little too thick.

"A little too thick" is a little too generous for a game that hired Samuel Loony Jackson to act like a crazy asshole.
Once again, Eurogamer's reviewers demonstrate a total inability to comprehend the game being reviewed (which is one of the reasons why they have actually given several recent games a second review after significant reader backlash). They are becoming sort of the IGN of Europe, and that's not something you want to aspire to.

StingingVelvet: they list a ton of small things and then complain mob stories all suck and are juvenile

I have three words for them: beeg American teetees (Eurogamer score: 10/10).
EDIT: To make things worse, their Italian sister site described certain shortcomings but gave it a solid 8/10, saying it was "One step from paradise and three shots from the heart ... "

Finished it... loved every minute of it and Steam says it took me 13+ hours, the perfect length if you ask me.
I wrote an amazon review here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RS0MK4GI473MT/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm

I love that review, you should post it around some game sites. I found it informative and non-biased. I love the DRM notice at the bottom too!
Good Job!

Great,
I'm still waiting for the PC version to ship to our shores. I keep seeing the PS3 version in stores which I don't give an ass about. The incompetent distributors here actually said Mafia 2 was shipped to the wrong country. It's time like this you wish you could do the stuff you do in GTA in RL.

cw8: GTA in RL.

QFT, LOL.
Guess I should buy Mafia 1 and see if it appeals to me.
Are you guys enjoying it? Just about everyone at the 2k forums is angry about promises that the developers made and cuts in content. I kind of wonder if it's still good or if I should be prepared for a little disappointment?

Well, looking over the 2K forums it seems people are mostly upset about certain preview content not in the final game, which happens a lot and is no big deal really, things change during development.
Some people seem upset about the "cliffhanger ending" but I beat the game and I can promise you the ending is not a cliffhanger, people just think there needs to be absolute resolution to everything possible for an ending to be final, which is dumb. The ending is great and the true end to the story.
So Mafia 2 is actually released outside of North America on Steam now? As Japan is still being shown the pre-order page. Funny thing is, the game went up for pre-order for us at the same time as everyone else, then was removed from the store for a while and then put back a few days before it was supposed to "release for the rest of the world".
Being a SteamWorks game (and not being discounted) I won't buy it on Steam until I know for certain it's actually released. I have the feeling though, that Valve are pulling the same stunt on us that they did with several other games. And if that's the case, we'll be lucky to see it released before next year. =/

It's out in Europe at least. Certainly, long enough for Rock Paper Shotgun to buy the game, play through it and then tear it to pieces.
