so, I've heard quite a lot about these games / visual novels called Digital: A Love Story and Analogue: A Hate Story.

I'd like to ask if they're any good, which one is better, and if I should start with the Digital before playing Analogue...

Actually, there are three loosely tied games in the series. "Digital" and "Don't take it personally" are free, so maybe you should start there. "Analogue" is commercial.

I don't know which is better, as I haven't played either, but the voting on VNDB appears to be about the same.

Well, Digital felt more like an interactive fiction than a visual novel since it lacked visuals and involved quite a bit of typing. Digital and Analogue aren't connected storywise, so you can start with either one without missing anything. Analogue is "better" since it's newer and actually has graphics, but that's an unfair comparison since one is free and the other isn't. I personally enjoyed both of them, and Digital isn't that long. It'll probably keep you entertained for one for two days. Just expect to do a lot of reading.

These are good old-style visual novels with interesting characters and stories. Try them all :-)

Play both, they are different enough and both are good. And the stories are completely unrelated, they just have a few themes in common, so which order you play them in doesn't matter at all. I liked Analogue more, but I definitely wouldn't call Digital wasted time (it's pretty short, IIRC).

EDIT: Yeah, and Don't Take It Personally Babe, It Just Ain't Your Story is very good, too, but a lot different than those other two. It's Love starting to experiment with non-linear storytelling, which is something she fully developed in Digital. Again, completely unrelated to the other two games.

Four. Four loosely tied games. You forgot Cell Phone Love Letter. Digital: A Love Story, Cell Phone Love Letter and Don't Take It Personally Babe, It Just Ain't Your Story are all set in the same universe. I've written the names according to the timeline. The way Analogue's title contrasts with that of Digital can only be deliberate. Since Analogue is set in the far future with starships and everything, it's also the latest game in the timeline so far.

Maybe I've missed something, but they're all "in the same series" in that they all deal with and discuss the same general issues, using roughly the same game mechanics - it's sort of like Bungie's fans trying to speculate on how the Marathon series and the Halo series could be in the same continuous universe, even though they very clearly aren't.

There are common themes. That's loose connection number one. There are also character cameos and references. That's loose connection number two. I don't want to spoil anything here since Kunovski probably hasn't played any of them, but I can PM you the specifics if you want.

so I've tried the Digital: A Love Story this weekend and remembered that I've played this game before ;) but didn't get far obviously, so I've really put myself into it, but got to a place where someone really screwed with my screen and everything is barely readable :D

from what I've read a remedy to this is possible, but I think I'll start over instead and this time do everything the way I should...

all and all, it's pretty decent and I'm looking forward to the other "installments"

and the game was amazing but the ending was... awful. Plain awful. But it's a good social commentary,I'd say.

ok, finished all three "free" games from the series (found out that I've actually played two of them sometime way back, but I can't remember when or why or anything... strange)

so now only the "paid" game Analogue remains... but 10 EUR is waaaaaaay to much for me to pay for this :( plus it's steam-only :((

You missed it when it was in indie royale, bro. And there was DRM free / Desura version too.

hmmm, I always thought indie royale is also steam-only... but I guess I've missed a lot of things, I actually only follow humble bundles as they're absolutely DRM free (no Desura or GamersGate or anything)

shame though, I'd really like to know how the story "ends" ;) better look out for other bundles!

Try digital. It's ok, really. Has better story, much better than "Don't take it personally..."
