Hi all. I just joined and this is my first visit. Some game dudes in EB games here in TO suggested the site. I was told that Portal is like Myst. (I like games like Myst and I don't want to pretend that I'm killing living things. And that's another discussion.) As far as I can tell, Portal isn't like Myst, although it looks damn cool! Still, I don't like the weapons development angle.

So, I'm not interested in Portal. But while I was in here I had a quick look and found the only shooter game (yes, a bit of hypocrisy here) I ever enjoyed, namely Descent. I was hooked with the demo I found on a disc advertizing a bunch of games. Loved D1 and D2 was where the game really came into it's own. D3 three saw the graphics bumped up but the gameplay was sacrificed, not intentionally perhaps. Nevertheless...

I mentioned Descent to the EB guys. They knew the game. It may be in regard to Descent or Portal, but they said that if I buy any game here, no matter the age, it will work or techies here will help me to make it work. The last I looked - like a century ago; I'm 55 - Descent would only play on Windows '95. I'm not tech savvy. I know there's emulation programs and that windows has a feature that assists. But when I tried to get a downloaded version of Descent to play on my windows XP (since moved on to Windows 7), it was hopeless. Of course, it didn't help that you need all sorts of patches. I just end up dizzy trying to sort it all out.

To finish my long story, Can anyone here confirm for me that if I buy Descent from this site, it'll be a properly patched version and that staff here (if that's how it's done) will be able to get my game to work on my laptop? I have a Toshiba Satellite, 4 G ram, Intel cpu M 370 @ 2.40 GHz, 64 bit. (I don't know what M 370 means but folks here will I'm sure) Thanks in advance!

You may need to edit some DOSBOX settings, as in this thread

Any problems running the game would be posted (and hopefully answered) in the Descent forum.

Nobody knows what the M 370 means. ;-)

Descent has no known issues that I know of and the gogwiki confirms that. If it does happen to cause problems you'd either be able to try a source port, which usually solves problems or we'd help you out.
M just means it's a mobile chip.

As for Descent, it will work with any modern system because it's the DOS version of the game. All DOS games on GOG use DOSbox which is a DOS emulator - it's what makes it work with your version of Windows, whatever it may be.
DANGER WILL ROBINSON! DANGER!

Sorry, I saw your post title, and I just had to do it. I knew it was a bad idea. I really did try to stop myself. Honest.
Thanks guys and gals. I'll get someone to pop for the cost of the download and give it a try. (I don't have a credit card.) It's almost free for gosh sakes! I see I have great community support here.

It looks like I've got some free games in my inboxy area. I'll check those out.

Hey robot!: Let me know when I'm 'not' in danger. ;-)
