I've been playing the demo of Lord of the Rings: Conquest. I've never played Star Wars: Battlefront, but for those of you who have, I've been told it's Battlefront but with swords set in the Lord of the Rings universe.
It's not a great game by any means, but it's been surprisingly fun playing the game. Basically you choose from one of four classes and fight in battles to capture control points set across the map. Being the passive aggressive person that I am, the Scout's my favorite (essentially the Scout class is the equivalent of Team Fortress 2's Spy).
The graphics are pretty mediocre for a current gen game but do their job fine. The 16 player limit on consoles makes the battles feel less epic than they could be. Ultimately I don't see myself playing this game for long, but it's good mindless online fun.
Seems very good. I need to try that demo too. So it's like a shooter, with crossbows and whatever they use?
Warriors are the melee brawlers with a throwable axe. Mages shoot lighting and other typical magical attacks. Archers are the long range fighters with three different types of arrows. And Scouts are the stealthy cloakable spies who can sneak in for backstabs. Not very original, but stupid simple fun.
Battlefield: Middle Earth then?

Aliasalpha: Battlefield: Middle Earth then?

Yes, except this Middle-Earth has been covered from head to toe in whatsit. I rented the game, and it was a mess. Graphics are very PS2 and 1st-gen XBox (In fact, there's a rumor that they used the exact same engine that ran Battlefront and Battlefront 2), controls are bad, and the person who barks orders at you while playing the campaign is the most irritating person on the face of the earth (or middle-earth). Multiplayer is also a mess, with very scaled-down battles and a requirement to log on to both your XBox or PSN accounts AND an additional EA account. It's very sad to see Tolkien's wonderful universe watered down to fit an awful, awful game.
Bad graphics, irritating voice acting (in spanish at least), bad control, and what's most important: boring gameplay.
I guess I don't need to play the demo. I got exactly those impressions from just watching the videos. Just another EA game.
God I want to fucking kick whoever let EA have their hands on LotR in the face!
Definitely EA at its worst. Overall theyre not that bad, they greenlighted a couple of great original IP projects last year (Dead Space, Mirrors Edge both fantastic). But it just feels like there is this one guy in the office who suddenly thinks: "hey we havent done a LoTR game in a while!" and this is a result...I hate that guy. XD
Another sub-par EA-title put out there only tor the purposes of attracting sales based on a famous IP.
The game itself is pretty bad folks - steer clear. If you want to get something good from EA this month get Dead Space.

Or Mirror's Edge. One of the best platformers I've played.
