Well I have to say, looking at the "List of games you own from GOG" Thread, the one thing all of the people seem to have in common is Fallout. I know that's the reason I came to GOG in the first place.
I've used gametap and it is a decent "rental" service...but you have to realize that is what it is: Rental. They started selling games a bit ago, but I never bought them. They weren't selling the games I wanted to play.
Of course the fallout thing came out long after I left ;)
I am really impressed with GOG. They are keeping to their guns. I think the company has shown that it puts the customers first, something very few game companies seem to do.
I'm not just talking about GOG either, look at CD Project and their "Extended" edition of the witcher. Evedon't trything they put in that edition, they let previous owners of the game download without having to pay extra. Has there been another game company that did that?
Just sayin'.

iiiiiin the red corner... Gaaaaaaame Taaaaaaaaaap
"A Green-level member must register with GameTap (though no credit card information is required) and is given access to a few more games, and also has the option of playing them through the "Lite" GameTap player, a simplified "Deluxe" player (the old GameTap player). There will be a short ad video streamed before each game is played with a Green account. The highest tier (gold level) requires a monthly subscription($9.95) or an annual subscription ($59.95). Gold level members will still have ad-free access to all GameTap content in more or less the same way they did before the announcement.
Users must have a broadband connection, and cannot play GameTap games while disconnected from the Internet."
iiiiiiiiiiin the blue corner, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOG!!!
"The service sells older PC games that have been updated to function properly on newer versions of Microsoft Windows. Unlike other services such as Direct2Drive and Steam, the downloads do not use digital rights management and the user does not have to install special client software to download or run the games."
GOG wins by knockout roughly 5 seconds into the match.

They're probably trying the ice and it's a good start. They could and probably should have chosen another title for the test as they’re now competing with GOG and many of the people who would have bought the games have already bought it here. AlsoGOG’s offer is better one as you get extra material with the games.
PS:T, ToEE, Arcanum or something would have been far better choise. Still it's a start.

I've had enough experiance with gametap that I don't want to deal with them on any level, honestly.
Not that I wish them harm, but I just don't want to deal with the company.

cogadh: At the moment, the transfer to Metaboli is not complete. Turner is still running the operation and will be until sometime in 2009. That transfer only further proves my point. Turner was wasting money on GameTap and now they are getting rid of it. However, since the transfer to Metaboli opens up GameTap to the European market, that could actually change.
Hmm. True. It's no secret that Turner have no idea how to run a successful video games department and have probably been making a loss (or at the very least they've been making a loss of profit/turnover). It's actually kind of poor because they probably could have hired people with relevant experience.
As far as I know, and have heard, I didn't think Gametap was actually coming to Europe. Instead, I thought that there's a possibility that games that are playable on Gametap will now be playable on Metaboli and vice versa. This is what I got out of the Metaboli Community Manager's though and this was a few months back when it first happened.
I think in terms of pound for pound matching of Metaboli and Gametap.. Metaboli offer a great selection of PC games (albeit only "rentable") and Gametap offer a wider variety. The quality over quantity lies with Metaboli though, in my opinion.
The service that Metaboli provides suits me down to the ground because I tend to only play my games through once or twice (depending on them) and then they collect dust... This is why I also love the digital distribution method over anything else. The downside is if I'm too busy (Which I am right now) to keep my subscription up to be worth anything, I have to cancel.. If I get the odd day where I am available to play a game and it's on Metaboli's service, I can't without starting up my sub again for a month.
I wouldn't worry about their download-to-keep content though. Gamesplanet I've found frankly expensive. In some respects Steam is the same, but Steam have some good deals every now and then. If anything, I would be more concerned if Steam started to do more games such as they did with the X-Com bundle...
