Hello GOGers :)

Liberated games as a term used for games who became open sourced or re-released as freeware. This website lists them all: http://liberatedgames.com

However very few of them are in GOG. It would be really great if people in GOG would bring them in, put some extra stuff with them and release them for free. I believe that this will bring many new customers to GOG.

Some of them are very well known games, many of them are hidden gems that needs to be rediscovered. :)

I'm playing 3 in three now. But as my brain can't handle some of the puzzles, I instead try writing scripts to have the computer brute-force them.

Though the game runs fine through Executor, if I make a shortcut to launch the game automatically (rather than launching executor first, then manually running the game), it doesn't have any sound. Since Executor development has just about stopped, I have little hope that that will be fixed soon.

Also, Glider was awesome.

The Quake and Doom games aren't free though. The source code to each of them is open and free, but not the game assets.

Calling these games liberated is a bit strange, as many of them (e.g. Heretic) only have their source code released, all the good stuff (art, levels, sounds) is still illegal to download without paying for it.

One of my favorites isn't on this list, it was released in 2009 as freeware: Thor's Hammer

Aliens vs. Predator is not freeware. It's just the source code that has been made available.

People will NEVER want to understand this.

Over than that, Gog is not really made to be a repository of free or open source games, that would overcrowd the catalogue.
Other websites list those games as a speciality, and I think it should stay that way so the games, on one side and the other, remain visible instead or drowned in the mass.

The commercial version of The Adventures of Fatman is not liberated, is it? You can still buy it on BMT Micro via the link on WadjetEye Games' website. An earlier version of it (without voiceovers) is availble as freeware though (and always has been AFAIK, but so are lots of other great AGS adventures).

I do understand the difference between FLOSS and freeware :)

However I hope that GOG can strike a deal with those developers and publishers to release their products here for free or at least for a discounted price!
