I know everyone's dead tired of Kickstarter, but this is a gem. I'd like to point out their blog entry simply on the mechanics of the game. Give it a push if you can!

A bit late to the party, aren't you?
I was always the kid that never got an invite. Plus the search thing on here is... mystical at times.

Though, hey, I did link to the mechanics bit didn't I? =)

Borderline useless is what it is.

Just a head's up if no one bothers to post here. ;)
Actually, I must thank for this thread, or else I would have missed it!

It's not just useless, it is actually counter-productive. Research has shown that using GOG's search function will make a google search run a fraction slower.
If you need to search the GOG forums you never use their search. You go to google and type this:

*whatever you want to find* site:gog.com
Their archer progress tree makes no freaking sense. The point of the crossbow was that any idiot can use one with 20 minutes training rather than the years it took with a bow (England for example had required training from age 5 in the bow) so why the hell do they take a guy with ~15 years experience with the bow and hand him a crossbow -.-
Anyway the game looks nice. I am also a backer.

Well, probably because it is stronger at shorter range? I guess the same argument could be had about Grimrock. I agree with your statement, but to me it seems like a minor detail because I could argue that it's silly that an archer can get armour, as that is not authentic in reality. Archers never had plate armor IRL.

I believe the most logical reason is … magic. It's because of magic.

That's not...entirely true. A bit of a historic misconception right there. In that time, giving a peasant a crossbow wasn't making him a killing force, but rather a "fodder" for the enemy's archers. The crossbow was fired at much shorter ranges than the longbow and took much longer to reload, but had a heavier stopping power against armored troops. Tell a guy to pick up a crossbow and hit a moving target at 150 meters. You still need lots of training for that, but firing at point blank targets while hiding in-between your own fighters wasn't rocket science.

For game context, an experienced archer gets a stronger mid-range weapon and can fire it quite effectively from the get-go.
Just a reminder that there's only about 7 hours left on this. I'd like to seem them do well, so give them your money =).
