Hi,
Can anyone help me?
I have just downloaded a couple of games but I cannot figure out how to launch them.
The game file icon is just a blank square with "setup_game name" below if I double click on it I get a list of programs on my PC to use open the file none of which work.
If I go on line to find a program to open the file I get the following message -
Windows has the following information about this MIME type. This page will help you find software needed to open your file.
MIME Type: application/x-msdownload
Description: UnKnown
Windows does not recognize this MIME type.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated
Thanks
Don

The setup_game_name are executable files, installers. You don't open them through any other software, you just run them, normally.
What OS are you currently using? How did you download the files? (Which browser and version, or through the GoG downloader app)

Check that the file size matches first, so you have a complete download.
Does the game have the extension ".exe" at the end? If not, first try to rename the file to something like: "game_name.exe" and running it.
Note that some games are multi part and will also have *.bin files, which will need to be in the same directory.
The installer should run and check integrity, before starting the install process.
Sounds like you're trying to open the file before it's finished downloading. Make sure the download has actually finished and you're not trying to open the temporary partial file that's created while the download proceeds.

Thanks for the help solved the problem
I have one further question there are 3 mods / expansions that were included in the extras section of the download is there any special way to load these into the game?
i.e. do i just double click on them to self install to the correct directories or do I need to manually insert them into the main game files?
Thanks
Don

Glad to of helped.
Which game is it?
It's possibly it could just be a self installer, point it to the directory the game was installed in if it does not do that automatically.
For the games I've seen so far, any 'extras' are a manual install, they'll come as a zip file with instructions on how to install, but check the games subforum and let us know if you are having issues, someone here should be able to help you.
Wow thank you i have spent hours with the same problem, and your solution worked, youve made my day THANK YOU :)
