I assume I'm going to be ninja'd here, but this story is taking to much time to appear in gog forums. Chris Avellone has suggested that they at Obsidian could use some Kickstarter to fund a new project. What project? Well, he talked about a new Planescape game. Since the internet exploded in extasis (and by that I mean rockpapershotgun.com) and many questions were rised, they have decided to ask the community itself before the possibility of a community funded materializes. So, were Obsidian to start a Kickstarter project, what should it be for? Apparently, the success of the question has rendered Obsidian's site useless for now, but be warned though, Obsidian is asking all of us what game would we like from them!?

My suggestion: A new Planescape (but not Torment related) in 3D, preferably first person a la Elder Scrolls and last Fallout games and party based. Yes, I like 3D over isometric, any problem with that? But make it continuous worlds, not that Bioware bullshit of disconnected areas. if anything, STALKER like, since it would be a game aobut different planes anyway.

Im down for Planescape multiverse they have my bucks to kickstart. I guess DoubleFine created new model.
Planescape? Obsidian?

I remember Neverwinter Nights 2... and I did not like that at all.

First you take a bit of Black Isle Studios, sack the lot of them, and have them roll a new character.. or something along those lines.
I'd probably donate for anything Obsidian wants to make, as long as they promise I'll be able to get it 100% DRM-Free. Preference would go towards top-down/isometric party-based turn-based tactical rpg though.

Not 3d, please - we have plenty of this nowadays.

We need good isometric rpg. Planescape would be the best, but I doubt they will get the licence.

Then go play Mask of Betrayer and be amazed. It's almost Planscape-like.
I remember Troika had a post-apocalyptic game engine. I would love to see a Fallout Tactics type game with more of the Fallout-type story writing and the combat done like Jagged Alliance 2 with the 1.13 mod. Jagged Alliance 2 can still give modern pc's problems with the number of calculations it takes. I think this is a good thing. I need more! A western-rpg fantasy game would be cool too.

How about something new though? A cowboy western tactical/rpg party-based game is what I'm thinking. I'd like it to be isometric and be able to take cover on top of buildings or behind obstacles and have multiple ways of entry into a building like Jagged Alliance does. I'm not sure if this could be done with Fixed 3D.
I don't mind 3D FPP as long as it's not on that godawful engine of Bethesda's.
I'd give Chris Avellone my money if he left Obsidian and teamed up with people who know how to code efficiently and create good-looking games without making them resource hogs.

I'd love to see someone take on a spiritual heir to the original Fallout and Fallout 2, Naturally one could not claim the name, but the general idea of a postapocalyptic RPG and play style as the original games. I was very disappointed with the official Fallout 3, it felt way to much like a FPS game to me and I missed the original view style.

Aside that I am thinking there is a market for a game based on White Wolf's Mage RPG, though the licensing for that might be expensive.

I want at any rate to see a proper RPG but in a novel setting (no fantasy settings please). Done in the spirit of real roleplaying, none of that Diablo action storyless hack and slash. Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment e.g. had nice storylines.

I think the world is ready and willing to pay for such games.
I haven't played NWN 2 yet, but from what I heard it's supposed to be very good.

My favourite reviewer praised it, the expansion even more.

I would glady give them the money I would pay for a game. Fallout New Vegas was a great game, considering the limitations they had to work with.

We already have New Vegas :P. But yeah I agree, it'll be great to see an isometric PARPG, where gameplay is divided on a ratio of 4:1 for stats-based versus twitch-based. Actually, I wouldn't mind something like Van Buren's camera view either (top-down 3D with adjustable cam view).

Glad to see someone else paying attention to Unicorn Lynx's reviews :P

Honestly if Obsidian would just start making real games instead of sequels, and if they had a QA cycle longer than about 10 minutes, I'd be happy. I like most of the games BlackIsle/Troika/Obsidian have made, but the thousands of bugs and this-seems-rushed feel from *ALL* of their games gets off-putting after a while. Just once I'd like to have a polished gaming experience along with my deep and open RPG.

I wouldn't mind Van Buren style display either, I merely object to the game being turned into an elaborate first person shooter. There is nothing wrong with modernizing the look and feel a bit, I remember at the time Fallout 3 was under development there was a demo of a similar looking game going around. It had a nice rotating camera Van Buren style look, that seemed rather a perfect mix of the classic Fallout and the new that a decade of improvements could give us... damned if I can remember the name of that game though.
