Hello, everyone.
I'm relatively new to GOG, so I'd like to start by apologizing if I'm "doing it wrong". I just found the section where you can vote on new games to go after, and I wanted to recommend two of those games as an old guy who may be one of the few on here to ever play them. I'm hoping they'll pick up votes when you hear how much they're like other games you enjoy.
Ascendancy: Master Of Orion's Bigger Daddy.
Ascendancy came out a few years before MoO, and has some surprisingly interesting features that MoO lacks. Planets are more customizable, ships are slot-limited rather than space-limited - it also tends to be more personalized. The galactic map is larger and uses hyper-lanes, effectively creating a more interesting tactical experience. And the interface is as easy or easier than MoO - making it, IMHO, a superior if slightly older game.
Darklands: The RPG sandbox you will never find every part of.
Darklands was probably the first ever real-time sandbox world created. A simulation of medieval Germany with fantasy elements, there were literally thousands of things to do, on whichever side of the moral line you choose. Fight the forces of darkness or join them. Become a Raubritter (Robber Baron) and oppress the citizenry, or study in a church learning about new saints to use against demonic forces. Negotiate with the black market. Make potions - or blow up your work-space and pay fines. Hobnob with the gentry and try to curry favor. If there was anything you couldn't do in that game, I never found it.
