And the boxes are mammoth. I always thought Total Annihilation had the largest box, but, shit, Darkside and Clouds dwarfs it, as well as M&M6, 7 and Isles of Terra. I had to store them in an empty closet because they just barely exceed the height of the rack in my metal cabinet where I temporarily throw all my games into.

To those who own the games too: are there any games that have bigger boxes than Xeen's? I'm still stunned by the sheer size of the two games. They're not really thick, but they're large. In fact they look more like 5000-piece jigsaw puzzle boxes than game boxes.

-edit- By the way I found this on Youtube:

Basically teaches you how to refurbish your old games' boxes into mint condition. I'm in the process of trying this out on a completely ruined Blake Stone box. Unfortunately I don't have a "before" picture of it, but I'll post the results of this experiment anyway come 2 weeks later.

Warcraft III Collector's Edition is bigger. Baldur's Gate II - Shadows of Amn is bigger but not by much, Pools of Radiance is the same height but about twice as deep. Newer - Two Worlds II and the Witcher 2 both Collector's boxes are bigger. Those are what i can see from sitting at my desk.
I think I still have the manuals but not the boxes. :(
If only I had known...

Aww Collector's Eds aren't counted :P

Shadows of Amn...ehhh...it's tucked somewhere amongst all my other games so I'm reluctant to drag it out to compare, but it's not really big, just thick.

Pool of Radiance, is that the Gold Box one or the latest one?

Shadows is a Collector and Pools of Radiance is the new collector's. The only regular edition boxes I can see that come close are Populous II - Betrayal at Antara - Daggerfall

My MM6 special edition (including a Queen Catherine figurine) is pretty big.
I thought all games from that timeframe were made as big as the Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn box! Granted, I bought that game in 2003. I thought in 2002, when Neverwinter Nights came out, was when game boxes started getting smaller!

From mid-2002 onwards, the boxes started shrinking, first from the medium sized cardboard boxes and then down to the DVD cases that we now recognize as the market standard.

NWN was, if I'm not wrong, one of the last few games of its time to have big boxes.

^ Now that you mention it, you're absolutely right! NWN did have a big box like BG2! I remember b/c I saw pictures of them on the back of my NWN Platinum retail purchase! And then in '03 it started getting smaller!

And now the DVD cases are being rivalled by digital sales! But that's more due to Gamestop (which owns the EB Games up here, which have severely shrunken their PC Games wall) helping Steam have a monopoly, rather than an accurate depiction of what the market sought!
I remember the old Eidos boxes from around the turn of the millenium - trapezoid shaped, and pretty big.
Actually, looking over my collection, it's like everyone in the industry tried to compete with having the largest, most imposing monstrous boxes on the selves back in the day. Perhaps especially Sierra Online at around the '98-'00 era.
A part of me kinda misses that, those boxes did have a certain kind of... personality that modern cookie-cutter plastic DVD cases lack entierly.

I'll see if I can snatch a photo when I get home later.

:D
The Ultima IX: Dragon Edition probably had the biggest game box I'd ever seen. It dwarfed the BG2:SoA collector's edition.

The game, however, did not.

My SSI collections box is stupidly big, as is the Quest for Glory collector's box. I don't have a Xeen box to compare to, though.
The biggest box I own is the Monkey Island Bounty Pack. Probably much smaller than any of the other boxes in this thread, but stupidly big considering it only contained a (double thickness) jewel case and the manual for CoMI (the manuals for the other two were on the disc).

EDIT: Hopefully the size of the text on the back will give an idea of the size.

Whoa mama. Reminds me of Total Annihilation Commander Pack, which I also hear is huge but only contains a double thickness jewel case.
