I created this thread on the DuneNovels forum (it's been there for a few months now):

"I encourage Herbert Properties to talk to GOG.com and EA about re-releasing the Dune games on GOG..."

http://forum.dunenovels.com/viewtopic.php?t=3807

While I certainly don't want anyone spamming that thread (and I did already post a wishlist link showing that thousands of people want these games), at your own discretion you might consider posting a message of support, if you have an account or are willing to create one there.
Well, sounds like EA needs to be contacted concerning the Dune games before Herbert Properties will do anything.

It might take a combination of GOG.com and fans of the Dune games to accomplish a potential release of the games here. I think that getting into contact with EA might not hurt matters any.

Dune 1 and Emperor are really the only ones I'd buy . Dune 2 is too dated, and I never liked Dune 2000.
I'll take a working copy of Dune 2000 any day.

I'd get them for nostalgia's sake, but yeah... you weren't even able to manage groups, you need to move every single unit at a time. I'd love to replay 1 though.

In case you don't know about it:

Edit:

Removed link due to abandonware policy.
Sorry about that.

Everybody who's still interested in this, just google: "Dune2000 gruntmods edition"

*cough*

Is that legit? It sounds like abandonware rather than a source port or clone.

I dl'd it and it works pretty well. Still, I would be first in line to buy this should it ever comes to GOG. So I guess the message to all parties involved should be "people are already playing your game, you want to profit from it or not?"

I'd rather have Dune 2 and Dune 2000 instead of no Dune games though.

Yes, i believe it's in that category - basically EA does not care if you distribute it, and they cannot release it as freeware because they do not own the IP.

I don't know if you're aware or not, but we have EA already here as a publisher with several dozen titles.

I think the main thing, the hard part, will be getting EA and Herbert to come to terms both parties are satisfied with.

I'd imagine Dune 1 & 2 would be shoo-ins unless they don't play right in DOSBox. I don't know about the non-DOS titles.

Why won't they contact them first?
Also, isn't there a way to ask EA as well?

What I'm getting at is that we don't link to abandonware sites. Especially not for games by publishers that GOG is trying to do business with.

I'm well aware that EA is here as I got quite a few games that they published on GOG (Bullfrog, Westwood, etc.). I was speaking on terms that EA and Herbert Properties have to come to an agreement on releasing the games here, otherwise currently they are in legal limbo. The same can be said for Blade Runner, Neuromancer, Dark Seed, etc. etc...

A discussion need to start between EA and Herbert Properties before anything with the Dune games will even happen. I was just mentioning that EA might need the heads up about contacting Herbert Properties concerning Dune. Hammering EA with requests and the very links you sent Herbert Properties might not hurt. At least they might take the request more seriously and look into it.
