Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I'm really on the fence about 3 of the games on sale this week; The Guild, Gothic 2, and Spellforce.

I tend to like good stories, memorable characters, and easy-ish fighting. I loved the first Fable and Kings Bounty. Any thoughts about these three games; are they for me?

Gothic 2 has somewhat quirky controls but is a basic RPG sort of game. I don't know much about the other two.

All three are pretty famous titles and since they might disappear at any time for an unknown period, I'd suggest you bite the bullet and get all the stuff from the promo (which is what I did).
Personally - I've only played Spellforce and that was quite a while ago; I found it really... weird. It began to look like a bit more of a RTS than an RPG, which isn't necessarily a bad thing...
The Gothic series has a reputation for being a staple in any RPGer's collection... and there's at least one person here who will tell you to "BUY THE GUILD" ;P. So - once again - give it a whirl. Even if you eventually find all of them mediocre, at least you'll avoid the dreadful uncertainty of "what if"...
BUY THE GUILD!
Thank you both. I know I'm not going to buy the whole pack, because only these three appeal to me. I'm pretty much sold on "The Guild" and will probably buy it, but I'm on the fence with the other two. I've heard Gothic is awesome, but I heard combat is really difficult and frustrating. Spellforce I'm a bit iffy on if there's an actual story.

Thanks again for any help. :)
Spellforce was good fun, but I never finished it; I think I got to about three levels from the end. My problem was that after a while it basically devolved into building as many towers as possible and just working your way through the map to the bad guys' base.

I think I got it in a 50% sale, so it should be worth buying in a 75% sale if you like the concept.
Thanks for that movie man. I don't really like the idea of having to work to the bad guy's base. So I guess the thing that's keeping me from getting "Spellforce" is...is there a good story/characters?
To be honest, I always felt it was more of an RTS than an RPG, especially towards the end of the game. So if you don't like the RTS elements you probably won't find it particularly interesting.

JudasIscariot: BUY THE GUILD!
I was wondering where thejoe was, this is like his sale.
Thank you. That decided it for me-no Spellforce. I prefer turn-based strategy where you have to think of stats, and the only real-time strategy I liked was Dragonshards. So thank you.

I think I'll buy The Guild, but not Spellforce. Now all I have to decide on is Gothic 2. Any story/characters there?

Gothic's combat is difficult to get used to, but when you understand how it works, it quickly becomes intuitive. It's not that it's impossible to handle, just unusual in the beginning. It's also buggy as hell.

And it ranks as one of the most addictive, if not best, RPGs I've ever played.
What are everyone's thought's on the AquaNox and Nations titles? My favorite strategy games are Rome: Total War and StarCraft: Brood War, I really can't think of anything I've played that would compare to AquaNox, maybe Sewer Shark?

Sorry Fantasysci5, I'm not trying to jack your topic, I simply thought asking here would be better than making another.
Can't say anything about the other two as I don't play much strategy and only turn-based when I do, but Gothic 2 is a MUST.

Best to be played sequentially after 1 though, to get a feel for the game's settings and to familiarize with recurring characters.
I tried a Gothic 2 demo, and I like the world, but MAN is combat tough! I died very easily. I think I'll get it, but I hope I can find lots of potions or not die so easily. :P
