Damn, we're growing so fast that soon we'll have to move to a bigger office or even build ourselves a skyscraper! But let's get to the point. We're looking for talented people who want to work in the gaming industry for GOG.com's glorious future. If you're a webdesigner or webdeveloper, have love for good old games (if not, then what are you doing here?) and would be able to live and work in Warsaw (Poland), then maybe it's you who'll be working on new assets for all those great games that are coming to GOG.com or who'll be developing those cool new features we have planned. Check [url=http://www.gog.com/en/page/work]the detailed job offers here, and if you feel you're the one we're looking for send us your resume. We're counting on you talented GOGers!

JudasIscariot: Like what, data storage?
I ask because it doesn't seem like a server would ever fit my needs
Well I don't know what your needs/situation are/is so I can't name anything specific that you might find useful..

But it can do data storage, hosting (http, sync servers), PXE server, backup control, network/computer monitoring (Nagios), scraping data from other sites (e.g. logging mobile broadband quota usage/remaining w/ warnings), caching (e.g. HTTP or DNS), NTP server, media streaming/center, music player (like a stereo), game server, rendering farm node, PBX, electricity/gas usage monitoring/logging, print server, torrent/download, SMS notification... and while it is not "doing anything", finding a cure for cancer or searching for aliens :P

Sorry about the "random" order, I was just typing things up as I thought of them - and that isn't an exhaustive list of what Donkey does (or will do) :P (for example, I forgot to mention irssi proxy for IRC!)

As I said though, not knowing your situation means that some of those might be of very little use to you. On my network (with well over 10 machines), it is a useful thing to have.

KavazovAngel: /facepalm (in a positive way)

... What's next.. your server providing wireless / satellite / cable internet connectivity for the neighbors? :D
If my neighbours were at all interested... yes :P

xyem: Because servers can do more than just hosting. Donkey (my home server) does loads of things and I'm not even finished giving her things to do. Being a PBX is just the latest :P

I ask because it doesn't seem like a server would ever fit my needs. External HDs are cheap nowadays.
Even for data storage it can be useful, available to multiple PCs raiding for redundancy, I'd hate to think if one of those external hard drives failed or you accidentally knocked one off the desk. Hope you are backing up, you just need to lose a lot of data once and you'll realise what a good idea backups are. Even if you do build a server for data you need a backup that can go offsite.

I must admit though I've been too lazy to setup more than file serving on my server and I have it turned off half the time due to power consumption, good reason not to have one really.

Mine consumes a little over 50W :) A third of the consumption the previous "version" did.

My god, you've mixed your potsherds in with your pollen samples! UnTHINKable! And you can't dig with the HANDLE of your spade!!

I have to ask this.

At the web designer requirements the first bullet says:
Expert proficiency using Adobe Photoshop (preferably CS5).

By any chance would that mean, that in order to qualify for the job, do you have to be an ACE (Adobe Certified Expert) or possess a diploma from a University.

I have a second server case which has ancient hardware, in about a year I should have the finances to rebuild that into my primary server and intend to have lower power storage drives, I can make do with lower spindle speed as being raided and not being normally subjected to high I/O they don't need to be that fast. Then I might just leave it on more often and see what power saving features I can enable.

My backup drives I'll opt for less power saving and higher throughput as backups need to get done reasonably quickly so I can drop them off at work the next day.

Nope. All that matters for us are your pure webdesign skills and experience.

I was wondering when the recruitment is going to end, because I don't know when to expect some response.... or when I should aknowledge that I've been turned down ;-)
