Doubt it, according to the article these guys also cooked and ate each other's flesh. They sound like a couple of pain junkies.

Do you believe women suffer (maybe not suffer but couldnt think of a better word) from penis envy?

Well, according to some studies, women can tolerate a higher level of pain than men. Just saying...

Who wouldn't have stopped it, or even sooner than that, in their position? People doesn't cope though pain because they have a choice, but because they must.
It's not some bloody pissing contest. Unless it is, in which case it's a rather unusual hospital sport.

The studies done on pain tolerance show either no sexed difference or (more often) a higher average pain tolerance in men. It's plausibly suggested that this difference is psychological and socialised, not biological and innate. The studies are, of course, done on volunteers who can stop the pain at any time. It's plausible that due to socialisation there's a tendency for men to voluntarily endure more pain than women as part of a test. Psychological factors have a very large effect on voluntary endurance of pain - that's how Mythbusters got their "study" to get the opposite result to real studies. Something as simple as deciding the result beforehand and having the testing carried out by someone who very much wants that result (which Mythbusters definitely did) will have a significant effect. Maybe they did it unintentionally, maybe they did it deliberately. Pandering to prevailing prejudices gains viewers, which increases revenue.
