timppu: So basically, does this mean that if I log into GoG on some public computer
...
That said, frankly I don't use public computers for any activities where I log into webmail or any sites.

SLP2000: tsk tsk, you should NEVER log to anything on a public computer.
Exactly, that's why I never use them anymore (e.g. last time I was abroad and I needed a net connection that my motel was not providing, I took my laptop to a local net cafe and leased their net connection, then opened a VPN connection).

But still, I did see many others happily logging into their hotmail, facebook and wow accounts on those same computers, so apparently they are more trusting to either secure login procedures, or that the web cafes are trustworthy.

Following the same steps as before isn't logging me in anymore. Anyone else?
I've been having the same problem. In fact, my current 'login' wherein I'm writing this, is due to the subject in question. I don't like it.
Still trying to narrow down the conditions under which this happens. It's not predictable yet.

A GOG cookie called "cu" sometimes appears when I enter a thread while logged out. When I reload the page with the cookie present, it goes from logged out to logged in. If the cookie doesn't appear, it stays logged out.
I don't quite follow your problem. Are you saying that you've logged in, and therefore acquired a session cookie (I don't know the lifetime of GOGs login cookie), and now it knows who you are. However you want it to have forgotten?

Is the complaint the lack of a log out button (there's one if you click on My Account), or the length of time the session is active?

EDIT: getting a bit of it, basically you're logging out, but it's logging you back in? Through this other cookie?

What happens to me is that I log out (manually) every time I leave the site.

And then every time I navigate back to the site at a later date, I'm logged back in (automatically). I haven't actually plugged my password into the site for days, and I've logged off every time. Cookies are the most likely culprit, though you never know.

I'm logging out, then randomly returning to logged-in status as I browse the site.

Normally the cookie disappears when I log out. If it reappears while I'm logged out, reloading the current page will show me logged in again. So there seems to be a connection. But it could be a symptom rather than the root cause.
OK, I get it, in that case it's that GOG have left a persistent cookie which is related to login, and need to fix it. There is no other way than cookies that they could persist state (other than really nasty stuff that google might do where they actually fingerprint your request).

Is there a time limit, has anyone observed a few days off the site (heracy I know, but they might), then come back with it still happening?
I still haven't been able to trigger it consistently, and GOG can't reproduce the problem. So testing things like time limits isn't feasible yet.

What's odd is the cookie disappears from my list, then reappears right before reloading shows me logged in. It's not sitting there the whole time. As I said, though, it might just be a side effect of something else.
Whoa, still doing it. I made the mistake of logging on to this computer 1 time and every now and then, out of the blue, it logs me on. Even when I have not been logged in on many other times.

I'm thinking this is a pretty big deal. Gonna wipe the temp files and see if it stops, but now I won't really know for a couple of weeks.
Are we sure this isn't just that the page is cached? When you are surprise logged in, can you actually act as your account (I assume you can as people are posting on the forums)?
Yes, it's a completely functional login. I see all my games when I go to log out again.

Happened right now, as a matter of fact.

Absolutely you can. Full access to forums and games without logging in.
I'm getting the same thing since updating to Firefox 8.0. I log out but if I navigate back to a GOG page I find myself already logged in. If I log out a couple of times (without logging in again, just log out of a page I find myself logged into) it seems to fix the problem but . . . it is bothersome.

I was logged out for a week with repeated returns, then all of a sudden out of no where I was logged back in for no apparent reason. I deleted all my cookies after that, and I'm watching that system for a while before I trust it.
