We're happy to present a reasonably polished beta version of our latest Downloader. It's more robust than the current one and sports similar features, but the best thing about it is that it's made entirely in-house. We've got this guy who wrote it from the ground up, which means we can be a lot more flexible when it comes to fixing bugs and introducing new features (and we've got some cool ones lined up!).

Before we roll out the final release, we would like some of you guys and gals to try it out and let us know in case you encounter any problems.

Above problems are already fixed, will be pushed with the next release.

You can download the installer here:
http://static.gog.com/download/d3/beta/Setup_Downloader_3.0.24.exe

On Windows XP and Vista, the installer will automatically download the .NET Framework, if you don't have it already. Once you launch the actual app, it's much like the current Downloader, so you should feel right at home.
We will keep rolling out new versions as we remove bugs and add stuff. You will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch the Downloader, or check for updated manually (under Settings).

Let us know if you like it, or if you encounter any issues we don't know about!

gibbeynator: I just downloaded the update for the installer, and now it just crashes on me. It tells me that there's an error, but it won't tell me what it is, and just tells me to send my logfile to support.

Edit: After uninstalling, reinstalling, and not accepting the update, I get the exact same error when I try to just log in.
Please try clearing the contents of the GOG.com folder in AppData:
Vista/7: C:\Users\Fallen\AppData\Roaming\GOG.com
Windows XP: C:\Documents & Settings\USERNAME\Aplication Data\GOG.com

If you remove the bin files there, the app should start. This has been fixed in the latest update, so when you get it to run, next updates should be painless.

Let me know if that helps.

I did this, and it's still crashing on mine as well.
Thank you for the feedback, I'll try to reproduce the error.

The downloader is not checking to see if the .exe already exists in the target folder.

I already had Beneath a Steel Sky downloaded, but when I added it to the downloader, it just downloaded and overwrote it again.

The downloader really should check for the installer and check for updates before downloading.

Would you kindly ;) remove this key from registry and try again? I understand it occurs every time?
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GOG.com (this will reset Downloader settings)

Trying to log in but it just sort of clears the fields and resets itself. If I type a wrong password I'll get an error, but when I type in the correct one it will just re-open the log in screen :( Firewall settings are good, and I can log in on the page without a problem. :S

I'll post an update in a moment that should put more information to the logger to see if this is app or api related.

Also does the downloader looks exactly the same as on the attached screen?

Just downloaded the update and still no dice.

But some more info:

At first, I got the prompt that I should download and install the update, so I did. But when it started downloading I got the "Something went wrong, send us the log file" error. So I went to the folder C:\Users\Name\Appdata\Roaming and took a look and noticed that I didn't actually have a GoG.com folder there.

I couldn't update, so I reinstalled the program (uninstalled first ofc), but got the error again. Then I deleted the GoG.com entry in regedit (Current_User -> Software) and it finally updated and I'm currently running version 3.0.17.0 (beta). But there's still no folder in roaming and I can't find any log files :S Maybe I'm just blind. :\ Hope this info helps!

Is the app working for you right now?
The app itself runs yes, but I can't login and I can't add games to the downloader ^^
Will there be an OS X version of the new downloader?

Yes, exactly like that.

I made a very quick video for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTE4gMY_cZ4&feature=youtu.be . Excuse the quality but hopefully you'll see the problem. I truly hope the feedback helps.

edit:
Oh it turned out in 1080p, nvm the quality comment XD
