We're happy to present a reasonably polished beta version of our latest Downloader. It's more robust than the current one and sports similar features, but the best thing about it is that it's made entirely in-house. We've got this guy who wrote it from the ground up, which means we can be a lot more flexible when it comes to fixing bugs and introducing new features (and we've got some cool ones lined up!).

Before we roll out the final release, we would like some of you guys and gals to try it out and let us know in case you encounter any problems.

Above problems are already fixed, will be pushed with the next release.

You can download the installer here:
http://static.gog.com/download/d3/beta/Setup_Downloader_3.0.24.exe

On Windows XP and Vista, the installer will automatically download the .NET Framework, if you don't have it already. Once you launch the actual app, it's much like the current Downloader, so you should feel right at home.
We will keep rolling out new versions as we remove bugs and add stuff. You will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch the Downloader, or check for updated manually (under Settings).

Let us know if you like it, or if you encounter any issues we don't know about!

Palanor: Trying to log in but it just sort of clears the fields and resets itself. If I type a wrong password I'll get an error, but when I type in the correct one it will just re-open the log in screen :( Firewall settings are good, and I can log in on the page without a problem. :S
I'll post an update in a moment that should put more information to the logger to see if this is app or api related.

Also does the downloader looks exactly the same as on the attached screen?

Palanor: Just downloaded the update and still no dice.

But some more info:

At first, I got the prompt that I should download and install the update, so I did. But when it started downloading I got the "Something went wrong, send us the log file" error. So I went to the folder C:\Users\Name\Appdata\Roaming and took a look and noticed that I didn't actually have a GoG.com folder there.

I couldn't update, so I reinstalled the program (uninstalled first ofc), but got the error again. Then I deleted the GoG.com entry in regedit (Current_User -> Software) and it finally updated and I'm currently running version 3.0.17.0 (beta). But there's still no folder in roaming and I can't find any log files :S Maybe I'm just blind. :\ Hope this info helps!
Is the app working for you right now?
avatar
Palanor: The app itself runs yes, but I can't login and I can't add games to the downloader ^^
Does it look like this when entering a wrong credentials?

Palanor: Yes, exactly like that.

I made a very quick video for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTE4gMY_cZ4&feature=youtu.be . Excuse the quality but hopefully you'll see the problem. I truly hope the feedback helps.

edit:
Oh it turned out in 1080p, nvm the quality comment XD
Ok, any very special characters you're using? Try changing the password on the site and see if this works out. Thanks for the vid ;))

Oh, and did the password work on the new downloader before?

Palanor: nope, no weird symbols, just letters and numbers ;)

However, I did as you said and changed the password anyway and for some reason it actually worked. (Exactly the same password, except with a capital letter added). Currently logged in ^^. Have no clue why it worked, but I'm not a professional programmer, just know the basics :p.

Thanks for the advice, going to try the program now hehe.

Edit:
My old password worked fine on the old downloader :)
Alright, glad it worked. Can you send me your log file anyway? Maybe this will give me more clues.

adambiser: I'm sure this is because of me trying to download it before it was available because it was stuck on "Preparing..." for a long time before I deleted it from list. Apparently, though, some lock is being held.
Ok, will debug that, try restarting the downloader and re-downloading the game. Thanks :)
avatar
adambiser: You're welcome and thanks for working on this updated downloader as well.
Restarting the downloader picked things up without a hitch. Downloaded and verified.
Well that's what I'm paid for and besides I love my job ;)

Can you send me your log file just in case? Details on PM. Thanks again.
We've pushed a new update which includes mostly some visual changes and bug fixes.

If you encounter any problems, please let me know.
First of all uninstall the downloader completely, remove everything inside the GOG.com folder in App Data and try installing the newest version directly:

http://static.gog.com/download/d3/beta/Setup_Downloader_3.0.20.exe

Could you post your current system specs and OS? Since when it is happening?

Starkrun: Wait a sec, update notifications for games and files? woah... grabbing now and will test with small and large files for you... post results and or bugs later today...

Very cool guys!

mid-west usa here on a 10mbs pipe
Thanks for testing ;)
avatar
Starkrun: I really like the small 10mb file parts from the install DL... crashing connection via software, unplugging the network cable, or powering down my switch switch did not ruin my downloads. Everything resumed and hit maximum down speed for my connection (which i never had from you before)
Glad it's working :)

avatar
Starkrun: occasionally focus doesn't switch, and the right click menu on downloads lags or doesn't show. If you left click and focus in the right click menu starts working again.
I'll take a look at it, to make it more responsive.

avatar
Starkrun: once the app grabs the bandwidth its reluctant to let go, of it for other applications sometimes.
Well we don't do anything on purpose, so it's rather a normal behavior.

avatar
Starkrun: Bug or Design? once you close the app and open it all downloaded programs clear from the application

suggestion: add a button to take you to download location specified in settings

suggestion keep files resident in application until user clears them even after the app is closed.

suggestion: add an option to download all bonus content though your app.

suggestion: have app check file version and notify if you upload a new version of the game (like a patched install) This would come in handy like when The Witcher 2 converts from King Slayer edition to Enhanced.
The completed downloads are cleared from the list when closing the app on purpose. Why would you want a terribly long list?

There's a magnifying glass icon besides every download, it will take you to the folder you're downloading to.

As for the bonus content, no comment for now :)

As for the checking current downloaded builds. I already have a version here locally that is able to verify the previous download upon adding to the list. If it is the same as on the servers, it marks it completed, if not, it is re-downloaded.

Thanks again for testing and suggestions.

sumone: I can't log in without an error. I can clear the registry settings and it will prompt me to log in, but when i do i get an error. I then restart and get an error with no prompt to log in. It was working when I first installed 3.0.12. After the update i can't get it to work. Here is my log file.
Please try downloading 3.0.20 directly and see if this happens again. What kind of OS you're using? Since when this problem occurs? Have you ever been able to log in?

bodi: I use Windows 7 64bit Home Premiun.
I can't even start the Downloader. At first it started and requested my login data. When i typed and hit enter i got an error. Since then i only got this when i start the downloader. No login data request, no nothing. It just crash. Oh, and it doesn't create GOG.com in Users/.../Roaming/. I had to create it manually to see the log. Here is the log:

sumone: I am using windows 7 64bit home premium. The problems began after the update from 3.0.12. I can't log into the new one since i updated from 3.0.12. I can still log into the old downloader. I tried 3.0.20 and still get the same results. I uninstalled then deleted the registry entries mentioned earlier in this tread before installing 3.0.20. Are there any other registry entries I could delete? I had been using the old downloader prior to this one. Could that cause a conflict?
Please download the version 3.0.22 and try to run the app again, this should hopefully create more info for me in the log file, as I'm trying to trace the problem.

Post log data if you can.

Starkrun: the main issue then was the 8 windows i was greeted with in my taskbar, if it happens again I'll grab a shot for you.
Made a small update to closing the app, should be pushed with the next update.
avatar
Nirth_90: Bah, why can't people post logs in a separate window otherwise it just spills over the entire forum..

Anyway, I got my eyes on this one and wanted to try it but apparently I receive an error during update which starts immediately after installation. It says it creates a log but I can't find it. What should I do? I turned off my AV and added admin rights but it didn't help.
Please try clearing the contents of the GOG.com folder in AppData:
Vista/7: C:\Users\Fallen\AppData\Roaming\GOG.com
Windows XP: C:\Documents & Settings\USERNAME\Aplication Data\GOG.com

sumone: (...)
Think I fixed this one, I'll post an update in a few minutes. Could you check one more time? :)
