pops117: I can't believe it... does this mean I don't have to summon technical experts to insert the batteries in the correct manner into my remote controllers anymore? I... I can just do it myself?
Tomorrow: Microsoft cures cancer.

Wishbone: No, this is for tomorrow:
"If you've ever spent hours with a new pair of shoes, trying to put them on the right way until you finally get it just right, you may appreciate Microsoft's latest invention. Yes, it's ObviShoes! Each shoe has an arrow on top pointing towards the front, and the words Left and Right respectively, in large friendly easy-to-read letters. The system has been patented and licenses have already been sold to both Nike and Rebook."

I think I prefer the idea from another comment. Shoes that go on either foot.

Kabuto: I imagine it would take more courage for the average person go and buy it at a local shop than a teenager buying a box of condoms and being served by a female cahsier.

Note that this technology is regarding battery compartments, not batteries themselves, and will only be available as a built-in feature of new devices (it isn't a module you can slot in later on).
Having to deal with handing out various devices to people at work, I'm quite happy about this. As soon as it becomes ubiquitous, it will save a lot of hassle.
I've had people tell me they can't be bothered to read the little + and - diagram. "Why should I have to read that! This technology is just too hard, stupid cameras. I'll just get PersonXYZ to use their phone instead".
In the short term, as soon as they hear about this, they'll be trying any combination and complaining the 'instants' or 'loaders' are not working. Still have a job for a while at least!

Indeed. This is why I'm puzzled that Duracell has bought a license for this. The only battery compartments I know they make are the ones in their infernal bunnies.
it is better than sliced bread.

I can imagine them complaining. Why should I have to push this button? The camera/phone should just take the picture I want when I point it what I want to take the picture of. Why should I even have to bother taking it out of my pocket, or travelling to where the object of interest is? Not to mention go to the store to buy the camera.

Sadly, I've had to answer that one. :(
