F4LL0UT: 160k... something's telling me they're not gonna make it.
Well it's already at 3% on the first day. If they get this same amount every day for the next 34 days, they'll just make it. I feel like it's going to crash at the end, though.

karnak1: Back when they did their first Kickstarter, the adventure genre was still being considered a bit like "past stuff".

I think that, nowadays, with all the new focus in adventure gaming, they could get more attention.
Actually they missed the first (and best) funding wave of KS adventures.
I remember their first attempt, because I found out about their KS campaign at work, and when I came home they had canceled it in the mean time, lol. Too bad, as I would have pledged for that, although I don't think my low level pledge could have saved it then.

I think it is much more difficult to get funding now on KS than before, as there are a bunch of backers who feel betrayed by the past KS adventures. There is a very cynical atmosphere for funding these things right now.

It doesn't really help that EVERY KS adventure is late of original schedule (about 1-2 years), and some games have had major changes, such as BS5, Broken Age and The Longest Journey changing their format to episodic release.

Some campaigns (Precinct, The 7th Guest 3, etc.) have also left many potential backers disappointed, even if neither got even close to being funded.

So I'm very skeptical about their chances, but at least maybe this time I actually have enough time to back their thing... :-)
Why not just do IndieGogo?

I think it's one of those cases where they get an *okay* amount on the first day (or couple of days) and then the cash just stops coming. I may be underestimating the franchise of course but seriously, even projects with a *major" nostalgia or celebrity boost often fail to get this kind of money. I can't imagine this franchise has so many and so loyal fans.

Because this isn't an indie game, these guys are professionals. :p

Just kidding, that might have been a good idea actually, but I think more people are familiar with Kickstarter(for better or worse).

KS funding rarely is a steady stream of money/backers. All the projects I've backed have usually gotten a huge amount during the first two days, say 20-30% of what they need, when the most enthustiastic fans come in droves, after that it's an uphill battle to the last couple of days when they get an another push, which often takes them over the goal.

On a quick glance this one hasn't made a huge impact and unless they got some pretty good press coming towards them they will propably not make it.

They will propably make another 3-4k today, but after that the income will most likely drop drastically. It's a marathon run though. If they keep their heads and really work for it, they could get what they're asking. But just like every succesfull project leader says about it, KS run really is a 24/7 job (unless you have some very beloved franchice on your hands.)
OK, I finally had time to check this out on KS.
Some observations:

1) They really try to make themselves fail. If they didn't manage to get more than $8,507 of the $135,000 goal on the first attempt, adding 25K to the goal and retrying seems very weird. If they have been working on the game all this time, the goal should automatically be less, as there is less unfinished work remaining.

I don't know if there is so many people willing to shove extra cash their way, just because they have apparently moved professional voiceovers from stretch goals to the main goal. I think the opposite way would be more logical...

2) They spoil the first game by telling how it ends. That is probably a very counterproductive way to get anyone who is unfamiliar with the original game to back the sequel. At least it doesn't motivate anyone to try out the first game.

3) The situation/puzzle that their video shows is the oldest and least innovative in the adventure game history: a locked door/closed pathway. Since 99% of all adventure games have this situation/puzzle, their game really doesn't seem at all original or unique in the puzzle department.

4) They have added 25K for professional voice-acting, but the video doesn't feature any in-game voices. Not professional, not amateur, not even place-holder voices. So it's very hard for anyone to actually know what that extra 25K is really needed for. Just a line or two by a good voice actor would be very convincing here, but nope. Nothing.

With the KS atmosphere being what it is these days, I wouldn't give this project any chance of actually meeting its goal with what very little it has to show.

It's a shame really, as it appears to be a very charming game project otherwise.
I guess I can pledge my part, as there is some promise in it, but as my pledge will be less than 0,1% of the their goal, it really makes no difference here...
It is a bit funny and a bit sad, that despite they know people don't like the proto character design they still insist of showing it. They really should try to correct the current crash course by showing what the final game graphics and character will look.

But yeah, I'd call this one dead. Poor planning and communication is killing it. It isn't enough to only get those original 150 backers return, who will pledge no matter what, given that they are most likely fans. You need to work to get other people interested as well.
