It can be kind of "this hobby has eaten up too much of my attention, destroying my studies and my social life" type of thing that you just want to make sure doesn't bother you anymore. A bit like flushing down all your drugs and breaking the needles when you decide to go cold turkey. "Never ever anymore!".

A bit like that happened to me with Amiga long time ago, when I decided to sell all my Amiga stuff for a highly discounted price. I just wanted to get rid of it all (my past life), and soon. After that, my life became so much better, I got better friends, more influence and more sex than I could wave my dick at. Or so I hoped at least. I was kinda fed up with the whole gaming business at that point anyway.

It could be also that the OP just needs the money urgently, with mafia and all.

Anyway, too bad for him that is not legal nor very convenient for digital games/accounts.

A movie takes up like 2 to 3 hours of your life max. Even if you rewatch it every few months you're probably talking less than 10 hours of real commitment per year. Books, it's a bit more, but similarly you don't find people typically reading the same book over and over again and spending all their time for months and longer reading it.

Which is probably why you don't hear about it happening so often. There are still people who ruin their lives with movies, Just look at the folks that obsess over Star Wars and Star Trek to the point of being stuck in their parents' basement till their in their 40s.
I try to keep that sort of thing to a minimum. But, I definitely have a problem, fortunately, while I'm in the PRC without an easy way of paying any CC bills I rack up, I've had to go cold turkey.

Sure there's actual wow addicts but thats nothing to do with the game, thats because they have an addictive personality and because of that they find validation in the extremes of escapism. Fucked up brain, not fucked up game (fucking boring game but not fucked up)

You should be aware of the fact that if you buy "digital", you own exactly NOTHING so you can't sell anything to anybody....

I don't see the point in selling or the rush in playing the games you own. Unless you have a terminal illness or are really old, you have many years ahead of you. Keep the games, play one every once in a while.

My advice would be to use Craigslist instead of eBay, and not to give the information in your ad. Less likely to have the account locked that way.

Exactly. I only do GOG which is more games than I really have time for (till I get that Lotto!). If I were into cars, or handyman stuff I would be using all my spare time on that( and maybe better off...). A rose is a rose is a hobby is a hobby....

Actually I feel similar. Last christmas sale on GOG I wanted to buy all my wishlisted games (around 20) and then I decided that this is nonsense, I will never play them and just a big waste of money. Instead for the first time I de-wishlisted most of them and finally only bought around 5. I didn't play any of it until now. Obviously I am making something wrong here.

You're just being an apologist. WoW addiction isn't fundamentally that different from gambling addiction or possibly OCD. Denigrating those that have serious mental illness because it isn't convenient is really missing the point. There are some people who become so wrapped up in these things that they do have to go cold turkey if they're lucky, otherwise they need support groups or wind up in a state where they've thrown everything away.

I'm not sure why that's so hard to grasp. I remember last year reading of somebody that died following a multiday gaming session. I'm not sure just how much more ruined ones life could possibly get, but that's addiction. Just because you choose to rationalize the fact that it's not a real addication doesn't change the observation that all the signs and symptoms were there. Normally people quit their session before they get that sick, the only people I know of who don't are individuals suffering from addiction that will keep clicking their brains out until something physically stops them.

I think in my entire time on the forums I've clicked it about 5 times. It's not meant to indicate that you don't agree with a topic. It's supposed to indicate a thread is spam, highly offensive, or in some other way innapropriate.
