The only problems I've had with Win7 are due to the copy protection (e.g. Starforce, TAGES) not liking the OS, and so the game fails the copy-protection even though it's legit. I've had to install the x64 version of these copy-protection prior to installing the games, and then they work fine.
The only game I had that flat-out refused to install was Doom 3, which checks the OS in the MSI installer, and isn't future-proof :( I had to edit the MSI file to make it able to pass my x64 OS.
Most older games that get confused in Win7 are due to virtualisation of the Program Files directory, or DirectX support of older functions being turned off.
