jamyskis: The Wii U is the least powerful of the new gen, but it also has the best library of this gen at present, and is by far (and is likely to remain) the leader when it comes to local multiplayer, especially when you have kids in the house. There's actually comparatively little of interest for two young children on either the PS4 or Xbox One - perhaps LEGO Hobbit or LEGO Marvel Super Heroes - both of which are available on the Wii U.

On the Wii U, you have Nintendo Land, Rabbids Land, Game & Wario, Wii Party U, Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros. U, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, all superb local multiplayer games. Oh, and Mario Kart 8.

The PS4 is a wonderful console with gorgeous visuals, but it remains to be seen how much "kid-friendly" stuff there will be. In fact, the only decent local multiplayer game I've been able to find is Child of Light (which, again, is available on the Wii U).
I aggree with the multiplayer part, that's why I bought a used black pre 2011 Wii (with GameCube ports) and had a nice gaming evening with some people on friday. The only thing consoles are good for is convenient local multiplayer with up to 4 players and only Nintendo still seems to use that now and then. I wish, there were more splitscreen games on PC though and more easy to learn multiplayer stuff on PC and other consoles.

The old Wiis can be softmodded that they can play your GameCube games from SD-Card and your Wii games from HDD, this even makes the hassle with discs obsolete at partys, better to have a PC that can emulate them in fullHD though if you don't mind Win7 (there you have my problem, It has too much DRM for me).

I have all the last gen consoles, and my backlog in awesome games is pretty killer right now. Should of said that in my post, lol. The more I read, the more I'm leaning toward a PS4. Last Gen my 360 was my workhorse. I was gonna get the Xbone at release, but all the ridiculous DRM they were touting(before backtracking) turned me sour, and I decided to wait. Looking like the PS4 might be for me.

True enough but like others here have already said, it might be best to wait for the holidays for a good bundle. I'd think the rumoured PS4 bundle with the Vita might be the one to go for.

If I were you, I'll wait until the PS4 and Xbox One gets more games on their lineups, since most of the good stuff tends to appear later.

On the other hand, you can always go for a better PC or some old consoles, like the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The Vita certainly integrates very well with the PS4. While the PS3's implementation of Remote Play was a poor joke, it works wonderfully on the PS4, to the extent that you can play PS4 games streamed to the Vita with comparatively little lag (footnote: that doesn't stop the problem of the controls being too imprecise and the screen being too small for some games, but it works in theory). Also, the Vita doubles up as a decent second controller for local multiplayer games and has a decent library of stuff of its own.

Sony has better exclusives in my opinion, since the XBOX being Microsoft means they may port them to PC later. Never gonna happen with Sony until they fail like SEGA. However, I feel the Wii U is the one with the most console feel, because most of the other games for the more powerful consoles are just downgraded versions of PC copies. And with 2 kids, depending on if/when they're old enough you'll be able to get more titles that you can all enjoy together.

So PC Master Race > Wii U > PS4 > Xbone. I also think the Wii is less online dependent for features and that most of the play is local based.
