So you are just buying games without playing them, for me this sure sounds like it. I am buying only games that i am going to play. You should try it too, when you see you don't have time to play so much you buy fewer games.

Why are you buying the games?

For some people collecting is the game.

I think somebody here (from Germany, forgot his name but it has "syringe" or like that in his username) already sum up about this issue during Steam sales last year. Basically what he said, most of the time digital distributor (GOG included) often put sense of urgency during their sales by offering games at low price for limited amount of time. But unlike real goods, virtual good will never sold-out. So there will be chances that the game will be offered at discounted price again in the future. Before purchase anything, ask yourself "do i want to play this RIGHT NOW or not" you can always wait for the sales later.

p/s: i already lost count how many time Interplay games were featured in promo / sales before.

Unfortunatly you can't do that on GOG. GG has the option to gift a game as long as you haven't downloaded or checked the CD key.

On topic:

I also "collect" GOGs more than actually play them. A dollar spend on GOG is a dollar well spent, and whenever I get the funky monkeys for some quick oldschool action, I have my gems ready and waiting for me.

Believe me, I'm one of them. I'd take the advice already mentioned. Especially about "virtual goods" and the manufactured urgency of the sales. That's sound.

Like others have said, I'd recommend purchesing a game you know you will at least play once so that you don't clog up your shelf or in my case its my steam account.

I have bought games because they were cheap and I thought I MIGHT play them, turns out with most of them I either didn't like them (taught me an important lesson about trying demo's) or I didn't play them because I can't muster up the bother.

Personally, however, I don't see the point in getting something that I won't use. I was also getting games whenever they were cheap, but no more.

Yes that would be nice. Twice now I've bought a game meaning to gift it and forgot to check the gift box.

Maybe not. Anyway, are you sure he has no intention to play the games he buys here? At least I am _going to_ play all my GOG games, and all the old PC and Sony console games I have also.

With the current rate, it may be though that I die of old age before I'm able to finish them all, but the intention to play them all is still there. :) Ok, maybe not the Manhole edutainment title that I got almost free in one progressive GOG promo, but all the others.

It doesn't even help to say "don't buy more until you've finished all your previous games", because at least I don't play them alphabetically or in any other predetermined order. I just pick a new (or continue some earlier) game from my vast library on a whim, and try that. It may be even some game that was added there only recently.

I've personally passed buying many GOG games that I'm pretty sure I'm not going to play, like VR Soccer, some of the pinball games, many of the racing games etc. Yet, I've still ended up buying most of the existing GOG catalogue already.

Well, it was meant as a joke. I thought it was sort of like the poster said above, which made it funny. It's like an alcoholic walking into a bar, ordering a drink, and turning to the drunk guy next to him saying "I need help with my drinking problem."

Judging from most of the responses though, there aren't as many like me that purchase games when they're a good deal so that you can play them whenever the mood strikes. Believe it or not, I'll likely play every one of them at some point, though I may not play every one to completion as that will depend on how much I like the game.

I used to do this. I don't think there is a cure other than waking up one day and realizing you're being insanely stupid.

It might be taking the place of other satisfactions in your life.
